According to Gentry, the Rotan fills the potholes with dirt, but when it rains the dirt washes away and the holes reappear. The Rotan resident claims the deepest pothole is located on Johnston Street.

Rotan is located about 60 miles northwest of Abilene and 30 miles north of Sweetwater. "Our neighbor knocked on our door and told us to evacuate," said Rotan resident Marione Eastman.
