Cash-strapped TriMet has cut back on bus and train hygiene. So The Oregonian asked Portland State University's biology lab to ride mid-day on several TriMet lines and conduct microbe tests.
The average sample bus seat contained about 80 bacteria colonies. The study, conducted by The Oregonian newspaper and Portland State University, tested 13 random bus seats on five different lines.
