An operating system that would seamlessly connect your desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, smart watch and glasses would certainly be a delight but neither Windows nor Chrome OS is there yet.

On Sept. 13, 2000, Apple released its Mac OS X Public Beta, a limited-time trial run of the ultra-modern, groundbreaking operating system that would replace the old Mac OS.

OS/2 was properly designed operating system, bringing multitasking, layered architecture and GUI to the DOS world. It even allowed easy porting of DOS apps to the new architecture.

Huawei has officially announced HarmonyOS, the operating system it was rumored to be developing to replace its reliance on Android. In China, the software will be known as HongmengOS.
