The app, called Viper SmartStart, is quite similar to Zipcar's recently released iPhone app, except it can work with your car, and not one you're renting for the weekend.

Android smartphone users are out of luck for now. That app lets you customize the system and see an interactive range display. Viper Smartkey is available right now for $149.99.

Via Wi-Fi, EDGE, or 3G, you can use the app to unlock your doors, pop the trunk, trigger your panic alarm, and yes, even start the car itself. And perhaps best of all, SmartStart is free!
