WHITE-NOSE SYNDROME Bats throughout North America have been combating white-nose syndrome since it was first discovered in 2006. Sadly, northern long-eared bats are no exception.
And the bats are still dying. White nose syndrome is caused by an invasive fungus first found in an upstate New York cave in 2006, a short bat flight from the Dorset, Vermont, colony.
White said the bat boxes will be there to help bats for years to come. "The bat boxes can last anywhere from upwards of 10 years, maybe even 20 years," she said.
