Routers are layer 3 devices, and route packets based on IP address. Switches are layer 2 devices, and forward packets based on MAC address.

So I'm looking for a reasonably priced L3 device (switch or router) that is capable of doing Inter-VLAN routing with decent performance. Ideally we would need 4-6 VLAN's, with room for expansion ...
