Vancouver Island is located in the southwestern corner of the province of British Columbia on the west coast of Canada.

- Mt. Golden Hinde at 2,195 metres (7,201 feet) is the highest mountain located almost at the geographic center of the Island. Second highest is Elkhorn Mountain at 2,166 metres (7,106 feet) and then Mount Colonel Foster at 2,129 metres (6,985 feet)

- home to the city of Victoria which is the capital of British Columbia
- population of approximately 750,000 in 2010, of which just under 350,000 live in Greater Victoria
- The climate is the mildest in Canada, with temperatures on the coast even in January being usually above 0 °C (32 °F). In summer, the warmest days usually achieve a maximum of 28-33 degrees Celsius.
