“Afterburn” is the third film from director J.J. Perry, who tried to make his mark with adrenalized endeavors such as “Day Shift” and “The Killer’s Game,” offering mid-budget spectacle. The features weren’t finely crafted, and the case of “The Killer’s Game,” were almost completely ignored by audiences, but Perry remains employed, reteaming with star Dave Bautista for a post-apocalyptic adventure story that can’t exactly afford to really show off a devastated Earth.
