This is exactly what I wanted as a pre-Indiana Jones film. Sometimes these old films get free passes because of their old school charm, but this film was just non stop entertaining. Been a while since ive seen such an entertaining old film. Very sexy film! definite blind buy!

Don't worry about the bad acting. These two brothers - Peter and David Paul - have such physical presence - all else is forgotten. This may be my favorite Conan meets Double Impact film. The 1980s - real action heroes, awesome villains, hot sorceress, and incredible costumes and set pieces: you won't be disappointed. A really professionally made catchy score too. These brothers are awesome. One of them does this donkey nerd laugh randomly throughout the film. It's like his trademark move. So bizarre and so 1980s. Movie moves along so fast since my eyes were glued to these prototype 1980s action hero bodies and personalities.

The blu-ray is bad-ass - all good quality. Comes with a bonus movie in its original Italian and German subs - no English for that one unfortunately.

While watching this movie, I was thinking "I cant believe the big-budget 1980 Flash Gordon movie copied the basic format of 1974's Flesh Gordon. I had to double check the release dates of both films because usually the parody comes after the big-budget film version. In this case, it's the other way around.

Flesh Gordon certainly gets respect for its creativity - cool props, costumes and sets. It feels a bit long but so does the 1980 version. In all honesty, the comparison between the two are unbelievably similar: Both Flash Gordon actors are similarly amateurish. The scientist actors in both films are similar. The emperor actors in both are similar. The Robin Hood character in Flesh is even similar to the Timothy Dalton character in Flash Gordon. Even the special effects arent so drastically different. Flash Gordon wins with Queen for music but even the musical score in Flesh Gordon is decent. If I had to choose which film I like more, I would say it's a tie. Flash Gordon has Queen. Flesh Gordon has cool motion capture beasts.

From what I hear about the previous video versions, this blu is a great upgrade. I like the way it looked and sounded. The only extras are a trailer and a very interesting director commentary - the production of the film is quite interesting.

Read a lot of negative reviews about this one but it was not boring and quite interesting - cool creatively done too mixing real footage, re-anacted scenes with actors as well as interviews with the actors - good look at “the stress of being an actor” type film. Ironically, Maggie did another film similar to this where she is playing herself in the movie - Irma Vep. For an interesting Maggie Cheung triple feature, one can watch Heroic Trio/Executioners, Irma Vep and then Center Stage as movies all sort of connected.

Maggie is as awesome as usual. Costumes and sets are also the star! The bluray - upconverted or not - looks very good projected large - Cinematic original motion picture/documentary.

During the opening credits, the video quality was like a poor dvd but when opening credits end, the video transfer magically switches to good quality. Looks pretty good enough! While the image is soft, it's way better than previous versions and gives it a dreamy fairytale non-digital cinematic look. This is what I want when watching films - the cinematic experience. I watched the movie with Cantonese and it sounded incredible and balanced with great bass and amazing atmospher - I was quite impressed. The English subs get progressively worse but are mainly words that have spelling mistakes rather than grammar mistakes so dont worry, the subs are not distracting.

This movie was like an old-school 80s/90s action movie - amazing fights, good direction, the actresses (as fair actresses they were) were all Van Damme terrific presences. There's even a scary-as-f*ck Bolo Yeung type actress baddie. If you like Naked Weapon, Cynthia Rothrock films, Bloodsport and seeing some intense female catfights - blind buy this film! A good soundtrack as well!

By the way, the movie was directed by the Kiss of Dragon director and written by Bey Logan.

- a lot of depth and crispness, no fuzziness
- dark night scenes look really nice
- really beautiful looking overall!

Audio:
I went back and forth between Cantonese and Mandarin. The Cantonese track is way better than the Mandarin:

Cantonese:
- more natural sounding but the effects during fights, as expected, are a bit too boosted but really not that bad.
- the famous opening Tarantino song sounds amazing as well as all the other songs
- audio is all in synch

Mandarin:
- sounds more like a mono track but not in a good way - sort of like listening to the movie out of an old radio.
- the soundtrack, especially the opening song, sounds like total shit.

English subs seem pretty damn good and are timed nicely with audio.

Extras: Trailer in HD with DD 5.1 Cantonese; Interview standard def with no English subs.

I forgot how good this movie actually is - last time I watched it was on DVD. Just FYI, at the 11 minutes, 39 second mark there is a quick scene where it looks like it didnt get remastered - sort of a very reddish hue fuzzy look, but it comes and goes so fast so no big deal.

I miss 1990 Hollywood stalker thrillers so I was curious to see Sha Ru Khan's Fan. After seeing tons of tons of Indian films these past 15 years, I have no patience for generic Bollywood flicks any more. When I watch a new Indian flick on video, I am prepared to turn it off as soon as it gets "Bollywood obnoxious." Surprisingly, Fan sounded like a film similar to one of my favorite Robert DeNiro/Wesely Snipes' film The Fan. Five minutes into the film and Im hooked. Basically Fan is a cross between The Fan, The Bourne Identity and Single White Female. It also acts as a comeback film and semi-parody analysis or Sha Ru Khan's fame.

I enjoy most of Bay movies with The Rock being my favorite. The only film I wasnt pleased with was Pain & Gain, but 13 Hours is quite good! If you expect this to be similar to Black Hawk Down, you'll be quite satisfied. All through out the movie I was waiting for Eric Bana to pop up. Very exciting and emotional film. Jim from the Office is outstanding here - the first movie role I appreciate him in. Also cool was the casting Pam's first bf from the Office. Actually all the acting is excellent here. Great double feature with Black Hawk Down.

It's been a while but I finally saw a Chinese modern fantasy film that didnt put me to sleep.
Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe has received mixed reviews but the trailer was tempting enough to
check out this film.

Chronicles is based on a popular best-selling fantay book in China. What is interesting is that the
Chinese government had later versions of ghe book rewritten to have less supernatural elements.
While watching the film, one could tell that there were metaphysical or philosophical ideas that
couldn't be obviously used. The director did what he could without getting his film banned. While
Chronicles has a bunch of patriotic communist comrade scenes that would please the ceonsorship
board on the surface, they didn't understand the context of why those scenes were used. Without
spoiling anything, the context of those scenes are actually poking fun at the communist comrade
identity yet the director carefully crafted the film so that it wasn't too obvious.

POSITIVES:
- The Mummy meets Hellboy meets Constantine
- exciting action sequences
- epic landscapes
- scary werewolf alien creatures
- a pretty X-Men Dark Phoenix style actress
- creative direction
- generally good pace
- entertaining Chinese Communist song performances
- 3D seems like it would be good to watch in 3D (I only have a 2D player)
- Lord of the Rings style caves
- intense musical score

NEGATIVES:
- some CGI is a bit 1995
- chemistry between the main male and female leads arent developed enough

The 2D/3D Bluray has beautiful video quality and top-notch Mandarin audio. The English subs were
pretty good with barely any grammar or spelling mistakes. Both the 2D and 3D options are on one
disc. Extras are minimal with just a 2-minute making of and a trailer.

Overall, Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe is an entertaining watch - nothing new but still felt unique
with its Chinese setting. I didn't fall asleep watching the film nor look at the time since it moved
along swiftly.

Sounds like a bad timing movie. It's not even a "so bad, it's good" film. It's actually just a perfect musical film. I would also like to add that the Japanese blu-ray does not have forced Japanese subtitles - they can be turned off when watching the movie with the original English audio.

Got mine today. I never seen previous video versions but this Blu-ray is decent. We've been spoiled with the recent crisp HD video versions of Vicol Blu-rays that it makes this Love on Delivery Blu not so impressive looking - quite soft and muted colors - maybe that's how it originally was? Just blind-bought this Bluray since im a fan of Cynthia Rothrock. This movie is surprisingly awe...some!!!

Sort of like the Golden Child. Buddha boy is reincarnated. His master is killed. An evil monk is after the boy. Boy hides with Conan Lee doing a good impersonation of Jackie Chan. Boy and Conan hide with mean auntie Shiela Chan doing a good Anita Yeung impersonation. Cynthia Rothrock is a Buddhist monk guardian angel who protects the boy, Conan and Sheila from the Evil Monk's goon squad. Even though most of the movie focuses on a funny relationship between the boy, Conan and Sheila, the martial arts scenes are actually pretty incredible. I mean there are plenty of famous Jackie Chan movies praised only for the action where we hear the "who's watching this for the story anyway" excuse. Well, the story here isnt that bad anyway but the action is so sweet! I rank this as Rothrock's second best film after Righting Wrongs. She is so amazing here! And all the fight scenes are exciting!

The Blu-ray is surprisingly good. The widescreen video transfer is way better than any previous video. No English subs on this though. Here's where some people may get upset but I thought the highlight was the dubbed English audio - it's funny. It makes the movie way better! It's not a serious film first of all so the silly English dubbing is a huge plus! Also included is the full-screen Hong Kong version which I watched too - the video is fine, nothing special - like a fair dvd but better quality than a VCD. Here we have the option of watching it with English subs with the Chinese audio.

Extras - besides the bonus HK version - are a bunch of trailers.

Just blind-bought this Bluray since im a fan of Cynthia Rothrock. This movie is surprisingly awe...some!!!

Live action Miyazaki. The director worked on movies such as Shrek and Puss N Boots. The dude certainly learned something working in Hollywood because this was one solid great fantasy flick - entertaining and excellent flow from beginning to end.

Besides the dull story and poor acting, this movie is not that bad.
- great camera work, production and sets
- Madonna's acting makes Temple of Doom's Kate Capshaw look like an Oscar winner but her poor acting is unintentionally funny and highly entertaining. And she looks hot.
- young Sean Penn reminds me of Miles Teller
- An explosive trick belt, a hair-tickling Chinese prostitute, a handless villain general and Balloq!
- cool songs and soundtrack

Holy crap, that is one psychotic dog!

Excellent excellent film - totally entertaining, intense and beautifully filmed. Paul Winfield is outstanding in this film. Definitely blind buy this blu if you have never seen it.
