A Quick Guide to Boom Cards
In our world, things have shifted quite dramatically in a short period of time! During that time a huge shift has been made towards distance learning for our youngest learners. Boom cards are an amazing resource that has changed the way many feel about online learning for kindergarten and first grade students! Have you heard of Boom Cards? They will definitely take your online teaching to the next level!!
Who can use Boom Cards?
Boom cards are great for teachers, students, AND parents!! All you need to do is sign up for a free account! There are paid versions that offer more but if you are just trying it out, I recommend checking out the free version.Â
Teachers can set up a classroom and add students. Our youngest learners can access Boom Decks with picture passwords! Parents can create accounts to provide support or practice for their kids! This platform is an incredible resource for all! Even homeschool parents could use this to support their students- young and old! Boom cards can be used for ALL ages!
What Makes These Cards So Special?
There are so many things that make Boom Cards great! Here are a few of them!!
-Self correcting-Feedback is provided for students when they get the correct (or incorrect answer)
-Interactive- Students can manipulate pieces on the screen or click buttons
-Engaging- Boom Decks are often colorful and hold kids attention
-Quick practice- Cards can be used to reinforce skills quickly
-Assessment- Teachers and parents can get instant feedback to let them know if their student understands the content
-Differentiation- Different decks can be assigned to students to meet the varying needs of learners in a classroom or at home
-Audio cues/directions- Many sets of cards have audio files attached that provide instructions or verbal cues
-Paperless- This resource is complete digital!! No more time spending countless hours at the copier!Â
What Can You Use Boom Cards For?
Boom Cards have many uses! Teachers can incorporate these into their station rotation for literacy or math. They can also be used for small group or whole group lessons. Teachers can put Boom Decks up on the smartboard to be seen by all and students can interact with the pieces!
Parents or homeschool families can use these cards to meet the varying needs of their children. In our home, we are homeschooling this year, and I plan on using these to reinforce skills for both my preschool and first grade child! I’m also going to be working with a handful of students on the side and I think this would be a great assessment piece!

What Platforms can I use for Distance Learning?
The Boom Learning App is available for mac, android, and kindle. Boom Cards can be integrated into many different distance learning platforms as well! Teachers can assign cards in google classroom and Seesaw just to name a few!
Where Can You Buy Boom Cards?
You can buy Boom Cards on Teachers Pay Teachers. When you do this, you will make your purchase and download a PDF. Once you open the PDF, you just click on a link and add the cards to your library!Â
