Tropical greens, natural materials and Peranakan influences conjure a sense of comfort and belonging in this dwelling for the family of three.

Proposed Colour Palette, Material Palette and Mood Images
For this home, the clients had a specific idea of what they want; a general Scandinavian themed home, sprinkled with local Peranakan flavors. The design blends traditional and modern elements seamlessly, creating a timelessly cosy look with rich textures and natural materials. The colour and material palette gave the apartment a light-filled atmosphere, a calm sanctuary to take refuge in.

Light-Filled & Airy: Living Room
The Living Room features a screen of breeze blocks, partitioning functional zones. The textures reminds inhabitants of their local culture. Aesthetically, the structure also seems to harmoniously blend into the generally Scandinavian interior. The material palette of the living space consists of wood, rattan and glass. Balancing this warmth, are large white walls with light-coloured furniture pieces in the foreground. In the evenings, indirect lighting provided by the cove light gives it a soft appeal, making the home a sanctuary for the family to retire into the night.

Visual Connection: Study
To encourage a visually spacious floorplan, a wide glass window was introduced between the Living Room and Study. It magnifies the sense of space and openness, separating the two spaces without restricting the inherent abundant natural lighting.
Tiling it Up: Master Bathroom & Balcony
Black and white patterned tiles were introduced in the Master Bathroom and Balcony, spicing up the calm and neutral palette of the public areas of the home. BB’s designer, Nadia, had encouraged the use of patterned tiles for these areas, particularly in the bathroom, as it is a “smaller enclosed space, an opportunity to explore something bolder, something that excites you”.
