Recently, a novel called Entrapped has been launched. You might want to check it out on flipkart. I haven't read it so can't say how it is though.
I have a book called Escape - but did not like it much, probably because I am not into fantasy.
Escape
Finally!!! A Fantasy section! Oh boy! Please get the discussions started.. And about the first post in this group i would say, no good indian fantasy, sorry. And whatever there is, its YA! Young Audience. Just like the House of Night Series *shivers* never will i ever read an YA again! I almost killed myself for the sheer torture.
If you really really foray into fantasy, talk to me... I have been there and i am still there. If you are inspired by HP and LOTR and Eragon, i can guide you. No am not boasting, its the years of fine tuning my dragon slaying skills *snorts*
Also, please, i would love to meet fellow fantasy lovers here. Please please please. Admins, can you guide some folks over here. Thank you :D

I am a new kid in the fantasy world.. Just had an introductory session with djinnis and adrifts, etc with the company of Bartimaeus.. Planning to get more apprenticeship before meeting the Lord of the Rings in the Dark Tower.. :)
Not that much of a fantasy reader, but will The Shiva Trilogy count? I read the 1st, procured the 2nd and is in my to-read list. It's a fairly fantasy laden book.
Anbu, I loved Bartimaeus Triology, what did u think about it?
And Freelancer I totally agree with u House of night is a total waste of time. All they have is whiny characters and some love triangles and sometimes even more.
BTW Did u read Inheritance? It was not as good as eragon :(.

There is an indian writer by the name Payal Dhar, wo has written a trilogy. And well at first I felt it was a Harry Potter rip off but it turned out to be good. I am just through the first book. About a 14 year old - Maya Subramaniam who was pulled into another world- the Eternal World to protect the Sands of Time. Check it out for Indian Fantasy for those interested. A Shadow in EternityThe Key of ChaosThe Timeless Land. Not many reviews on the book. But it deserves one.

I wish. I read the first one "The Gunslinger" and the rest are in my wishlist. I might read it later on. But since its not high fantasy, i will postpone it till i complete the other series.

For romance fans,A Discovery of Witches and Key trilogy collection (Key trilogy #1-3)(though,the last book in the series was a major disappointment :| )

A Discover of Witches was good. considering it was Deborah's debut novel...I expected another vamp-human silly romance...but the book did have a good plot. I hope the sequel comes out soon.

Not that I am complaining but i'd like to know why the Eragon Cycle is not here. As far as I am concerned, it's the best fantasy series after LOTR. Although I'd also like to mention " Harry Potter", but since it is such a phenomenon, i'll refrain myself.
Coming back to Eragon, guys come on... are there any fellow non-resident-alagesians?

you got to be kidding me!!! How many fantasy series have you read?? I mean, don't take it in a bad way but Eragon cycle is noway one of the best. Sure i love the series. I love Saphira, i love Bron, I love Paolini's writing, but his coming-of-age fantasy genre is just one tiny part in the world of fantasy. And you CANNOT compare LOTR to Inheritance cycle. Even HP is better. Though i like Eragon more.

I never did understand why people love fantasy. The only fantasy I've read is Twilight series and HP book one half way through
One really superb fantasy-romance (with emphasis on fantasy) series is the Tairen Soul Series.
Another good fantasy-romance that I plan to start soon is the Nine Kingdoms. I've been rec-d this many many times.

am currently halfway through book 1 - much slower than I want to, as I am reading it to my son at his bedtime and I do only 10-12 pages a day. If given a choice I would have finished a book a day

would the profs and deans of fantasy suggest me a series other than LOTR & HP but which could be likened to them...

I would suggest 'Mistborn' trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. You will love it. Also since you are looking for 'coming of age' fantasy sub-genre, you can go for even 'Inheritance Cycle' by Paolini and 'Wheel of Time' series by Robert Jordan.

I have read all his books. Jurassic Park was the best. Later books are just repetition of the same theme - man vs. some non-animate but intellectual particles/computer
I thought he is one author that I have to try...Because all the mails from Flipkart about his latest book, Micro !!
So, u think Jurassic Park is his Magnum Opus...Well, 1 of the guys recommended me Andromeda's Strain..Which one is more exciting ??
And by the way, how many books have you read ?? You're like this voracious reader who tries to claw every word/ page available around !! Impressed !

I remember reading the book (Andromeda stain), but dont remember the story. Its to do with some extraterrestrial microbe or something?
I have been told its about some biological experiment gone awry..And I didnt google it coz being a mystery, its best not to search about it...

A Song of Ice and Fire is one of the most elaborate and acclaimed fantasy series.
His Dark Materials trilogy is worth reading too. This and The Inheritance Cycle books are part of my 2012 reading list.
What are the views on The Chronicles of Narnia?

Then all you Crichton dinosaurs take a football kick and land on the appropriate thread, u r confusing those already living in a fantasy..
Would Ashok Banker's Ramayana series qualify as fantasy? After 'Yuganta' I am intrigued by Indian mythology. Indian mythology will be a part of my reading list 2012. I want to read all about Rama, Nala and Damayanti, Shakuntala.
*Risking Adi's wrath for misusing this thread ;) *
We had a small portion from Abhijnana sakunthalam transalation as part of our Malayalam syllabus in school.
Our teacher mentioned that as the courtier of Vikramaditya(a descendant of King Dushyanta),Kaalidasa couldn't write about King D not having the spine to accept Sakunthala.
So he invented Durvasa's curse and all that ring& ghajini business.:p
The poetry is beautiful,BTW.. :)
