Couldn't get into Polostan though I tried a few times, but this one - technically a sequel though can easily be read independently - gripped me from the first page; a serious storyline but a whimsical tone and a bit of a picaresque novel with the fate of the world at stake. Unexpected fun considering the first series volume. ]]> Review8979673720 Sun, 18 Oct 2026 19:01:08 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8979673720 Liviu gave 5 stars to Songs of the Sun Eater: Tales From The Sun Eater Universe (Hardcover) by Christopher Ruocchio

Interesting stories - one new set post the novels timeline when Hadrian Marlowe is a (to be) reborn demigod or an executed mass murderer depending on one's view. A very good addition to the fascinating universe of our hero. ]]> Review8979673720 Sun, 18 Oct 2026 18:58:40 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8979673720 Liviu gave 5 stars to Songs of the Sun Eater: Tales From The Sun Eater Universe (Hardcover) by Christopher Ruocchio

A novella touching on the events in the Melding Furnace as well as on the more general question of how did human civilization on Anyar appear - am archaeological dig where scientists from warring nations put aside their differences to collaborate

A good read though summarized in the novel, so not needed to follow the main storyline ]]> Review8997173992 Fri, 16 Oct 2026 10:03:46 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8997173992 Liviu gave 5 stars to The Melding Furnace (Destiny's Crucible Book 10) by Olan Thorensen

The next to last Anyar installment moves the storyline along a few months preparing for the ultimate showdown in Landolin; of course that will happen if the two AI systems around (from the original movers of humanity there which are also offshoots of the Object from Harbinger versus the recent aliens who brought Yosef and co to Anyar) do not object...

A few surprises - most notably the Assessor corps and their discoveries - but mostly a let's follow the multiple cast of characters type of novel

Very curious how the author plans to end the storyline (the hints are mixed) and definitely plan to listen to the audio release as that adds always a lot.

As a note, the Yodrill's Razor novella mentioned in the introduction is summarized here so while a decent read in itself, is not really needed.

Overall a book cementing the series status as one of the best recent SF offerings with something for almost everyone ]]> Review8646550488 Sat, 03 Oct 2026 18:41:51 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8646550488 Liviu gave 5 stars to The Chronicles of Tiris (Book #2): A Sci Fi Progression Fantasy Series by Vasily Mahanenko

Fast and fun with two big adventures with some imperial academy staff in-between; a crazy ending that changes things in a major way, though I expect that Baron Kael Golden aka Xhorh (in simulations he is unbeatable as a Xhorhian commanding mind and sub mediocre as a human fleet commander) and his team will rise to the occasion even under the new circumstances and the new patrons ]]>
