bookshelves: fantasy, fiction, adult, swordandsorcery, general-fiction, speculative-fiction
I'm here with your FAQs before publication.

What genres is this?
It's fantasy with the big F: kingdoms, monsters, magical items. It's inspired by sword and sorcery classics. It's not horror. Please don't tag it horror!

If it's fantasy does it means it's romantasy?
Absolutely not.

I recognize the name Yalxi from your novella The Return of the Sorceress. Is that the same character?
Yes, if you read my limited edition novella "The Return of the Sorceress" you'll recognize Yalxi and her nahual. No, you don't need to get that before this (it's a really expensive collector's item by now!) because that novella is included here along with "The Lure of Stone" and a third novella all of which put together form a trilogy.

Can this be pre-ordered?
Yes, through your favourite retailer. Writers love pre-orders.

Is it on Netgalley?
Not as of today (October 2026) but usually Penguin Random House uploads electronic galleys 6-8 months before publication. My British publisher (Arcadia) generally uploads them 2-3 months before publication. Print ARCs from PRH should go out early in 2027 as they normally ship them 6 months before publication.

What's a nahual?
It has two meanings (and can also be spelled nagual). It refers to a shape-shifter who can transform into an animal, often called brujo or bruja (warlock or witch) in current parlance. In Mesoamerican mythology it refers to a person's animal double. In Sorceress, it is a mythical being that has a symbiotic relationship with a sorcerer. Nahual means to transform in Nahuatl. ]]> Review3924664139 Mon, 19 Oct 2026 22:46:46 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3924664139 Silvia has read The Return of the Sorceress (Hardcover) by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
bookshelves: fantasy
October 2026: This novella is out of print, don't even look for it. BUT Sorceress (2027) collects this novella and two others to form a trilogy. See here: Sorceress: Novellas

The Return of the Sorceress is a novella, not a novel. Fair warning. This is sword and sorcery and thus a departure from my other works, too.

It's coming out in print as a limited edition from Subterranean, but will also be available as an e-book and in audio format at some point.

I picked up a copy of Fabio Morábito's collection The Shadow of the Mammoth, translated from the Spanish by Curtis Bauer. Morábito, who was born in Egypt to Italian parents but relocated to Mexico as a teenager, is a precise writer who tends towards the microscopic and spare as can be seen in his story “The Grass at Airports.” A dynamic, multi-faceted talent. ]]> Review6959696145 Mon, 28 Oct 2024 19:17:56 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6959696145 Silvia has read The Bewitching (Kindle Edition) by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Yes. One of the timelines is set in 1998 and thus it's mostly composed of alternative music from this decade. Enjoy:

What genre is this?
Horror/suspense

What is this about?
A graduate student working on her thesis in the 1990s, an aspiring writer attending a women's college during the Great Depression, and a farmer's daughter growing up in the mountains of Hidalgo at the dawn of the 20th century, will all encounter witchcraft and danger.

Will this be available in the UK? In Spanish (or other languages)?
It will be out in the UK in July 2025 through Arcadia/Quercus. At this point (June 2025) Spanish translation rights have been purchased, no release date for that edition is forthcoming. No other languages have been acquired. Translation deals are hard to get and it has become harder to be translated in most markets.

Will this be available from Goldsboro as a limited edition with the sprayed edges?
Yes to Goldsboro.

Will there be other special or signed editions?
Aside from Goldsboro, there should be a number of signed copies available in the UK and the US. Check with your local bookstores.
