A short book that somehow could have been even shorter, especially if you have any background in some of the topics or long experience as an educator. Still some of it was satisfying- nice research backed rant about how educators are forced to implement new curricula and ways of teaching in waves and cycles that have little evidence backing them, and are often just repackaging of things that have already been tried or that we already know work by another name. I knew it but still enjoyable to see the case laid out for how wild this experience is. Good chapter on “desirable difficulties” and easy wins vs small, actual wins and why that’s better, and a pretty good page on why direct instruction is ok and actually best practice in many cases, especially at the start of a unit. A good solid specific list of the strategies that work according to widespread evidence/are being recommended by this book could be summed up in a paragraph, tho. ]]> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/232705775-instructional-illusions http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/file http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/review Rating1009438746 Wed, 19 Aug 2026 16:28:17 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/ ]]> ReadStatus11286766847 Wed, 19 Aug 2026 16:24:22 -0700 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8874708159 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/221502398-the-possession-of-alba-d-az http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/file http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/review
