They say it’s the quiet ones you have to worry about, and she was quiet, very quiet—when she wasn’t busy despising me with a burning passion.

Ringo ‘Ringer’ James has a no-strings-attached policy.

Love them, leave them, and remain the eternal bachelor.

After a summer in which every one of his mates has succumbed to settling down, or so it seemed, Ringer is on the lookout for a quick exit. Having had enough of the stomach-turning love fest witnessed over the past three months, Ringer jumps at the opportunity to help out his mate, Max, by heading to Max’s dad’s property for a working holiday.

It’s just what he’s looking for. A remote, dusty homestead in Ballan, with only hard work, a cold beer and a comfy bed to worry about – no women.

Until Miranda Henry.

The privately educated daughter of his boss has returned home from overseas and things are about to get very complicated, very fast. As summer draws to its end, Ringer is about to learn that sometimes attraction defies all logic, and that there really is such a thing as ‘enemies with benefits.’

I am having so much fun with this series! It is appropriately titled the summer series as it has been my guilty pleasure reading material this summer.

While I am certainly enjoying the full length novels more than the novellas, these novellas are keeping me hooked on the series as I work my way through.

I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about Ringers story since he was a background character in so much of the other stories and perhaps the least appealing of the "Onslow boys" however I was pleasantly surprised. He was so much more fun than I thought he would be.

Yes Miranda was annoying and spoilt and not at all like her brother Max however I enjoyed the pranks that were exchanged between her and Ringer. While I was not too fond of her character the chemistry between the two was sizzling and I loved watching it play out.

Although not relevant to the plot, one observation I have of the entire series is that it must have been written well before it was ever published. In every installment there has been mention of tape decks in the car or the stereo and it has been years since either have ever existed. In defense of this particular story, Ringers vehicle was a 1977 model so it seems legit however not so much in the other cases. This is however irrelevant and does not impact the enjoyement of the story.

One more story to go and I am excited that it is full length. I am not sure what I am going to do when I finish the series, I am already anticipating the loss!

Update: OMG! I just went to download the last book and it is not out yet! Arghhhhhhh! This means I am waiting for two books by C.J. Duggan to be released from two of her series. The injustice of it all!!

AAAHHHH, I LOVED Ringer. This novella was such a great addition to the Summer series by Cj - every story that gets added to this incredible series just keeps getting better and better!
I have always loved Ringer's cheakiness, and his story here was no different - he is such a loveable Aussie bloke with a gorgeous dimple!! My only problem with this Cj - is that there was not enough Ringer, we NEED more!!
Can't wait for Adam and Ellie's story which will be out this year, and will hopefully include the awesomeness that is the rest of the Onlsow Boys - Toby, Sean, Stan, Chris and Ringer!!

I have been such a fan of this series since I read the first book. Even though it’s a summer series to read, I’ll read these anytime of the year. The Onslow crew is just my favorite to be around for a good laugh and a lot of swooning. This novella was no different. More importantly because it starred my favorite Onslow boy. Ringo James.

He was a sarcastic hottie all throughout the other books and I wanted his story. I wanted to watch his walls crumble and someone to blast through them. Miranda did just that. All of his friends found love and he was so cynical, always hating on that notion but I knew he secretly wanted someone of his own. He just needed to find the right one.

When he leaves Onslow for the small countryside of Ballan, Australia about 5 hours away, his life changes.

Miranda is Max’s sister, who mans the bar in Onslow, and becomes a great friend to Ringo, Toby, Stan and Sean. At this point, no one even knows he has a sister and we find out why. When his parents leave town for two weeks, they ask Max to come home and help take care of things while they’re gone but Max doesn’t want to go. Ringo finds the perfect opportunity to escape the chaos of Onslow for the solitude of Ballan in his place. Only, once he gets there, his life is turned upside down.

I loved Miranda. From the moment we meet her, we see a spoiled, selfish brat who gives Ringo a run for his money. Their first meeting is hilarious. But overtime, we learn her story and why she left Ballan to go to Paris for a few years.

This was such a fun and sweet story and it heats up with pent up tension between these two, because god damn, they’re super hot for each other. Even if they hate each other at first. But the banter is GOLD, along with the constant games they play on each other. The pranks. It’s mighty hilarious and eventually turns to HEAT HEAT HEAT!! I loved it.

Seeing Ringo find his match was the ultimate highlight of this story. She gives as good as he does. But she’s really a misunderstood individual and our boy sees it. I love the tender moments between them. Gah. Ringo is such a wonderful soul and I loved him even more after reading his story. Wasn’t sure that was possible.

The ending was thrilling and perfect. I loved seeing Sean and the rest of the gang. They all make me laugh and awww so much. Totally love this gang in the biggest way.

I think Ringo has beat out Sean as my favorite, just by a landslide though. So happy to see him tamed and settled. My heart is happy.

Ringer has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning, so it was awesome to see him get his own novella! He is definitely the roughest of the Onslow boys and a lot edgier, so naturally I liked that Duggan made his novella fit his personality. In fact, I think this is probably the steamiest of the series so far. Ringer is a good guy through and through, despite his crudeness and rather dirty mouth. When he first meets Miranda, the two clash immediately and it does not look good for our characters. Ringer left Onslow to get away from all the love and romance in the air, never expecting to find it himself on a dusty, barren farm in Ballan. Miranda, on the other hand, hates her hometown and swore she would never go back. Too many dark memories remain there and there's no way she is going to end up as a farmer's wife.

At first it didn't seem possible for Duggan to create a romance between these two, they were so at each other's throats! Miranda is not the nicest heroine we've met thus far, and it really made me doubt whether I'd like her. I did eventually warm up to her, even though I thought she was a little over the top about her and Ringer's first encounter. Ringer isn't about to let some stuck up princess barge in and walk all over him, that's for sure. He gives her a taste of her own medicine and it's quite amusing to watch these two together. Miranda was able to meet Ringer blow for blow and she definitely didn't go down without a fight. What starts as a war, slowly turns into something more, as they both can't seem to stay away from one another.

While I enjoyed seeing our boy get some love, I did feel we didn't get quite as much development as I would have liked. Miranda's past issues were resolved a bit too quickly and Ringer's declaration of affection seemed too fast for his character's nature. Fans of the Summer series will undoubtedly enjoy this novella and will be happy to see Ringer find his match, as I was starting to feel left out for him back in Onslow! I honestly thought he and a certain someone else would work things out, but alas, it's not meant to be.

I'm looking forward to Forever Summer next, which is Ellie and Adam's story! I am super curious to see how Duggan will bring that one about!

around 2.5… i really couldn't get into their story. I don't think contemporary romance stories should be written as novellas because there isn't enough pages and words to not make it seem insta-loveish. Oh well. I still love the other books in this series! Can't wait for the fourth novel.

Actual mini review

I am a huge fan of CJ Duggan's contemporary series. The boys of Summer has starred in so many of my videos, one is my top 20 contemporaries, and just recommending it to a ton of people. Ringer is novel 3.5. It is the story of Ringer. Most of his friends are whipped (ie: have girlfriends) except him. He also isn't planning on ever settling down with anyone. Ofcourse you know this novel is about the girl who DOES want him to settle down. I did like the writing but I have to say that I wasn't a fan of the plot. I felt it to be typical and I just didn't like the girl. Also, I felt the romance felt insta-love-ish. I don't really blame the author because the novel IS short. I guess I just don't like romances in novellas. I did enjoy the novella, just not enough for it to me memorable. I AM excited about the upcoming book and I love the full length novels in this series so I definitely recommend it to all contemporary lovers

I don't want to give away the whole story, but I have to say, I think Ringer is my favourite Onslow boy! He is so cheeky, playful, a little bit sensitive and a whole lot of sexy!
Then in comes Miss Miranda!! At first I though oh wow talk about a snob! But it was so not the case.. She is just a beautiful young girl with her own background and problems. And boy does she have a cheeky side, she loves to play practical jokes and can take it as well as she gives it!!
Although a the beginning we see her bratty side by the end of this book you will love her as if she was your own sister..
If you want a book that will make you laugh at the characters antics and make you not want to put it down till you finish it, then this book is for you!
In fact I would suggest you check out all the books in this series, I promise you will not be disappointed!!

What a lovely personality Ringer has, "weirdo?" he scoffed. "More like being woken up by that hideous sound your sh** box of a car was making; I thought you were going to crash it through my effing wall." Miranda has some pretty amazing lady balls, "so when, instead, the shower door flung open and I was met with Miranda Henry in all her angry, naked glory, I almost slipped over in my shocked effort to spin around so fast." Ringer he can be somewhat gentlemanly, "don't worry, Miranda, if I was going to eff you, it wouldn't be up against a bathroom sink." And he makes the yummiest promises, "I stood behind her, meeting her eyes in the mirror. "I think we need to get out of here so I can show you what I think." I love these boys so much and I'm ready for the next book.

Ringer was just in the background in the summer series, but i am so glad he got a book otherwise the summer series wouldn't be complete. It was cheeky, sassy and much hotter than the other books in the series. There was a lot of tension and heated passion between Miranda and Ringer which i loved reading about. It was funny to read about their relationship and how they annoyed each other and got on each others nerves and not to mention the pranks!! Loved every page of this book. I finished it too quickly as i couldn't put it down!

Ringer and Amanda

Max's dad needed him to leave Onslow and come home to Ballan for a few weeks while he was out of town. Ringer was listening to the phone conversation. He offered his services, he needed a break from Onslow because having all his mates in love was getting to him. He needed to get away. When he was almost there, he had to open five different gates driving along the way to get to the house. As he was working the chain on the last gate, someone drove through the gate nearly killing him. The car stopped, the window rolled down, and out came a middle finger as it drove away. That's how Ringer and Miranda met each other and started their relationship.

Aah... Ringer in love is fantastic. How it snuck up on him was great. I wish he would quit smoking though. I don't know how anyone would find that kissing a smoker didn't taste bad. Ew.

I'm not sure why there was so much drama from a car accident. The accident was four years ago! Everyone should have put their big boy pants on by then and moved on! Poor Melanie, the only person that moved on was stuck with an overbearing and obnoxious dad. She was the one that had minor injuries from the accident but she was the ONLY person to be over it and moved on. Life is too short to carry that crap around. Car accidents happen ALL the time. Much, much, much worse accidents happen. She shouldn't have been admitted to the hospital if her only injury was a scrape on her face. She passed out but didn't have a head injury, fractures, or internal bleeding? Absolutely no reason for all the adults to be overreacting! Ugh. Her injuries were absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. 100% recovery!

/rant

After my rant you would think that I didn't like the novella but Its a must read book in the series. I'm just fascinated with the Onslow boys. I kind of wish Ringer and Stan got their own full length books.

This novella ended abruptly (status quo for the author) with them shopping in Onslow. What were her parent's reaction? There was no epilogue. I don't understand the author's deal with abrupt endings leaving unanswered questions. Has no one mentioned this to her? She should have stopped by now if it was communicated to her. I certainly cannot be the only reader bothered by this.

This book should be read after Tammy and Chris' story.

This book was in dual POVs and has good editing. I actually recommend this book if you've read the others because Ringer is great.

Don't expect to learn ANYTHING about Ringer for though. Does he have a job? Where are his parents? Are they still alive? What's his Onslow story? How does he feel about never being in a real relationship before? Shouldn't he have at least some trepidation now that his bachelorhood is over?

Too many issues about the accident, not enough information about Ringer, and the abrupt ending make this novella a disappointment to me.

Shouldn't Toby and Tess have gone home by now? Does Toby still have his job? Isn't Tess in school? Last I checked, Toby and Tess were in Onslow only for the holidays. These things need to be addressed in the books. It's February in this book, they should be on the other side of Australia by now and in school.

I like that there is a Max story but he is such a minor character in these books. He isn't even an Onslow boy! He should take a bigger role in these books.

I was suffocating.
I could feel it restricting my brain, exhausting me in ways I could barely describe.

Just when I think my heart has settled on which one of the Onslow boys I love the most, C.J. Duggan goes ahead and throws a spanner in the works and my head and my heart are all in a spin. Each of these boys have owned me at different stages throughout this series. And it's not over yet.

Ringo James isn't looking for love. In fact he's trying to get away from it. It seems that all his mates are paired off. And they seem completely happy and content with that. But Ringer is suffocating amongst all the love. So when an opportunity presents itself to get away from it all, Ringer jumps at the chance to get out of Onslow for a while.

No matter how big the house was, it was never going to be big enough for Miranda Henry and me. The wench should have come with a warning label.

Miranda Henry got out of Ballan as soon as she could. She didn't plan on going back any time soon. But things have a way of going the complete opposite of what you want, and Ballan is exactly where Miranda finds herself. And she's not happy about it. Look out Ringer!! Sparks are set to fly!!

She was turning me into a mad man, a man who wanted to beg and cave and do whatever she wanted.

Ringer is told in dual point of views, which was just perfect to capture the humour and the effect that they had on each other. There was no instant love between these two. In fact it seemed to be quite the opposite. Ringer is such a shit stirrer. He is so damn good at it. Boy, didn't he have Miranda tied in knots. But the thing that he wasn't expecting was that she would have the same affect on him. Miranda is the female version of Ringer when it comes to sarcasm and wit. She can dish it out with the best of them. They fed off each other brilliantly. The things that they did to get under each others skin and try to get the best of each other. They fought and goaded each other. They flirted and teased. They got hot and heavy.

The Summer series and it's characters have come to mean so much to me. I love every minute of the time that I get to spend with them. They are fun, they are multilayered, they are giving, they are heat, they are flirty, they are love, they are just right.

Ringer was such a fantastic read and is packed full of everything that I've come to anticipate with C.J's writing. I can always count on her to give me exactly what I need in a book. Her incredible ability to write with such humour always manages to blow me away. The epilogue was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!! I laughed so hard. It was the perfect ending.

Grab yourself a copy of Ringer today. I guarantee that you'll laugh out loud, and it's an absolute given that you will fall in love.

Lucky I was a charming bastard when I wanted to be.

***NOTE: This review doesn't contain any major spoilers for the first three books in the series.***

Ringer is the next book in Duggan's summer series. It's billed as book #3.5, but it's not super short - the main difference is that this book takes us away from Onslow (and the other Onslow boys) and focuses solely on Ringer.

Honestly, I didn't feel like I knew Ringer all that well after reading the first three books in the series. He was always there, but kind of on the sidelines. I was glad that I got the chance to know him more in this book!

The negatives:

Sudden turnaround.
My only issue with this book is that I didn't quite feel the connection between Miranda and Ringer the way I did with the couples in the previous books. I felt like the transition from animosity to love was a little sudden, and I wanted to feel their relationship build a bit more. This might simply be due to the fact that the book was, in fact, shorter than the others. Don't get me wrong, I did think there was chemistry between these two and I did like them together, but I just wasn't 100% sold when Ringer decided he had fallen for Miranda.

What I loved:

Ringer.
Like I said, I didn't really feel like I got to know Ringer in the other books, so I was glad to get to know him better in this one! I could totally get how Ringer was feeling like his friends were kind of dropping out of the picture one by one - he was losing them to the women in their lives. And since Ringer had no intention of joining the boyfriend club, he just wanted to escape. So, it was pretty humorous that his attempt at escape brought him directly to a hot girl with an attitude - one he couldn't quite get out of his mind. I really ended up loving Ringer by the end of the book - he was sweet and confident without being super cocky, an all-around good guy! (And quite swoonworthy!)

Miranda's character development.
At the beginning of this book, Miranda is just kind of a brat. She seems to think she's better than everyone around her - including her family - and she's snotty and inconsiderate. As the book goes on, though, you start to see that there's something behind all that posturing and that she's really more vulnerable than she wants to let on. I liked seeing Miranda's transition - and watching her fall for Ringer!

Miranda's family.
I got a kick out of Miranda's family - especially her dad. The poor guy was being overwhelmed by the women in his life! :-)

Another great installment in this series. Ringer will keep you satisfied until you get to read Adam and Ellie's story. If you're a fan of this series, then I KNOW you can't wait for that one! 4/5 stars.

What can I say? C.J. did it again! Even better, I think Ringer is my absolute favourite Onslow Boy. I know I say that every time, I guess I’m a bit easy when it comes to these Onslow Boys, but I mean it. Ringer, oh my! He’s just the best. Funny, protective, bold and mischievous, definitely my type of boy.

I’m so glad we got to see this side of Ringer. It was a part of him that was missing from the other books. But what I love the most (yes, I’ll use the word love a lot because that is what I feel for this book) is the process we see him go through. From the lonely ranger of the group, the untamable stud that was unwilling to fall for all the gooey eyed love his mates had fallen into, to a man in love. Quite beautiful to witness.

I also adore that this book was different from the others in several aspects which gave the series a fresh touch. It just adds to C.J.’s creativity. Once again, we are not in Onslow; this time we get transported to Ballen, apparently a town in the middle of nowhere. But this time around, we also get away from the group and focus exclusively on Ringer and Miranda. We do get to see the gang for a bit, don’t worry, they are there, just not that present in this one.

Nevertheless, my favourite part was that, unlike the other books, this one was told from two different points of view. It’s the first time we get an Onslow Boy’s point of view! The stories have always been told from the girl’s point of view, but now we got both, and it was amazing! I really loved it, it added so much to the story.

Miranda, is a whole other story. I felt like a really made a connection with her, because even if all the Girls in this series go through a maturing process, Miranda was the one whose growth was more tangible. You can see her experiencing all those life changing decisions. I loved her wit and boldness too! That girl is not afraid to get what she wants! At first I didn’t get her much, she reminded me a bit about Amy, with being all spoiled and all. But once you get to know her and her demons, you get her.

But mostly, I loved their relationship and to see how it developed. As I said before, Ringer was always the funny of the group, and he didn’t disappoint. The cool thing is that Miranda was up for the challenge. Her love-hate relationship was hilarious and you could feel the sexual tension between them. I dare say C.J.’s writing is getting better, because I felt she truly managed to capture their feelings, processes and essence.

In sum! This is an enticing story that will have you turning pages (or clicking in my case) until you are done! It is a fun and fast paced read that makes an excellent addition to the series. If you are an Onslow Boys fan, you cannot miss out on Ringer!!

4.5/5 Fangs
 photo ringer3.jpg
 photo ringer2.jpg

The novella begins with Ringer tired of all the "love is in the air" relationships around him. He is in need of a change in venue ASAP.

"Yeah, Onslow was beautiful; it was also bathed in romance. Sweet doe-eyed looks, hand holding, giggles, freakin’ sunshine and rainbows. It was enough to make your beer go flat."

When he finds out he can help his friend Max, he decides to leave Onslow and drive to Ballan and to Max's dad's property to help around.
To his surprise, the daughter of his temporary boss is acting like a spoiled brat and Ringer is not going to let her win this little war they have going on.

However, the more time he spends with her, the more he likes her even against his own will.

Miranda Henry is forced to go back home. Leaving Paris and going back to Australia is not what she wants. To makes matters worse, the new hired help keeps on making her do crazy things. One minute she wants to hit him and the next she wants to kiss him -- hard.

Oh my, Ringer, you were so good in this book. You are my new favorite Onslow boy (I'm sure I'll change my mind when I read Adam's book).

I do think you deserved a full novel, but I guess I will have to conform with what I got. Sigh!

I like how CJ handles the humor. I do believe the last chapter was so funny and I liked how it ends too. I do hope we see more of them in Adam's book. The only thing I will change about Ringer will be his smoking. Please quit, Ringer.

“Any girl who could nearly run me over, flip me off, tell me to eff off, drench me in cold water, stomp on my foot, push me in a dam, rip my favourite jeans, make me carry her handbag, attack me in my sleep, force me to hide under a car … and yet, still manages to make me fall in love with her?”

I really adore C.J.'s Summer series! You can find my review of the previous book in this series, That One Summer Jennifer's Review of THAT ONE SUMMER. This is a novella about another one of the gorgeous Onslow Boys --one that we didn't really get to hear much about in the previous books.

Ringer is "annoyed" with his friends and romance in general. Most of the Onslow boys have girlfriends now and he just doesn't get what these relationships are doing to his "boys" :-). We met those girlfriends, boys, and relationships in the previous books (this is a stand alone book so you don't have to read the other books but trust me once you read one you will want to dig into each boys story!). Book 1 centered on Toby, Book 2 - Sean Book 3-Chris, and now Ringer. When his friend Max mentions his Dad needs help at the ranch, Ringer jumps at the chance to escape Onslow and his friends for a bit. Here is where he meets Miranda, Max’s sister.

Miranda --Well I have to say out of all the girls we met in the other series she was my least favorite. But that being said I am glad that each girl had their own distinct personality - so of course every one wasn't going to be my favorite and I wouldn't change Miranda as I think Ringer needed someone like her. Miranda initially comes off as a spoiled BRATTY SNOB -- but as we get to know her better we see that's a defensive mechanism. She is definitely bold, sassy, stubborn, and reckless. She finally realizes this (which redeemed her in my eyes) and I will be anxious to see how she and Ringer are doing in the next book in this series. All that being said she really was the perfect match to Ringer. The chemistry between Miranda was off the charts and their banter was hysterical.

Ringer - Well what can I say -- mmm... Goodness...He is a good guy at heart (like all the Onslow boys) but definitely the roughest/crudest of the bunch. With that roughest definitely comes alot of sex appeal and in turn this was the steamiest book so far ;-)

My favorite thing about Ringer: That he gave Miranda a taste of her own medicine.

The rest of the Onslow boys drop in for a visit and I LOVED that!!!!

A super cute part of the book is comparing the beginning to the end :-)

Those of you who are already addicted to this series (like me) will love this novella. I personally can't wait for the next story - Adam & Ellie they hold a special place for me from book #1!

After weeks of not reading a single New Adult book, I finally ended my NA break with a book I've been dying to read. Ringer. Out of all characters in C.J. Duggan's Summer series, I wanted to read most about Ringer. He always has something funny to add to dialogues and I think he's a pretty interesting character. I wish he had a whole book though but I can't complain. A novella would have to do because.... well, it's RINGER.

What I liked most was how Duggan was able to tell the story smoothly. I'm often wary about novellas because I find that they're usually too rushed that you feel it's inadequate. But that wasn't the case with Ringer. It was a full story that took place in a short span of time. Duggan didn't waste a single page; she told the story like it is right from the start. Every chapter that after followed an easy pace that made the reading experience more enjoyable.

I like that I got to know Ringer better, beyond his womanizing ways. I admit, he's nothing special amid playboy NA characters but he has that effect. Ringer's easy-going and a bit of a bully but I think it's what makes him more likable. I also like that Miranda is nothing like the female protagonists in the previous Summer books. She's perfect for Ringer! I love how they were picking on each other in the beginning. It was immature but it was pretty entertaining because you know something will happen between them. And it did! Ringer shows a side of him that you won't see in any of the books before and I. Love. It.

My only complaint however is the insta-love. Now that part was unnecessary. I just don't believe Ringer could fall so easily like that when he barely even knows Miranda. After all his complaining about his friends who are in love, I found it weird how easily Ringer could fall. Perhaps all Ringer needed was to find that one girl, but I  think he dropped the L-bomb too soon.

But what the heck. This novella is still good.

Once again, C.J. Duggan brings another story that's perfect for the summer. If you're still thinking if you should get this book well, stop. GET IT. There's tons of fun and swooning, guaranteed.

From the moment he agreed to help his friend, Max, out for the summer, Ringer James knew his life would change. Whether it's for bad or good, he's not exactly sure. He's tired of seeing his friends all lovey-dovey over their new girlfriends while he sits on the sidelines. Granted, he's always been the bad boy of the bunch, loving and leaving his own women whenever possible. Still, he's sick of being surrounded by so much love and sweetness.

Making his way to his summer destination, Ringer never imagines the chaos that ensues. Having almost gotten run over on the way there, he's begun to wonder if the effort in getting away is worth it. Part of him doesn't think so, but he's agreed to do what he can for Max, and he'll stand by his word no what happens. Besides, things can't be that bad, can they?

Meeting Miranda Henry soon changes his way of thinking. She's beautiful, brazen, and bad to the bone. In a sense, she's exactly like him, except she wants nothing to do with him. Ringer can't quite fathom as to why since he's never set eyes on her until now. The girl obviously knows what she wants, and it sure isn't him. A fact she makes known whenever possible.

Refusing to give in to the way things are, Ringer sets out to teach Miranda a lesson she'll never forget. He's out in the middle of nowhere, determined to do the best job he can. There's nothing he's going to let a mere girl get in the way of. When things start heating up between them, and he sees a side of Miranda he never thought possible, he soon wonders what he's gotten himself. Will he be able to tame the lovely Miranda? Or will she end up being the one to teach him a lesson in return?

Another lovely addition to The Boys Of Summers series, this is definitely a book you're going to want to read. The story picks up from Ringer's point-of-view, and tosses you head-first into his hectic summer. Things certainly et interesting when he and Miranda Henry collide.

C. J. has created such delightful characters that anyone of an any age can relate to. The camaraderie between each character pours off each page, and you can vividly envision the world and environments she's created. This series is one that you'll definitely find yourself reading time and again. Looking forward to more of The Boys of Summer and what else C. J. has to bring soon enough.

After reading the first three books in The Summer Series and loving each Onslow boy in his own way, I couldn't wait to read Ringer's story. In the other books he appears to be the most playful of the group and always ready to get up to no good. In the beginning of this novella, it is clear that he needs a little escape from his hometown since his friends are all busy being nauseatingly in love.

"Yeah, Onslow was beautiful; it was also bathed in romance. Sweet doe-eyed looks, hand holding, giggles, freakin' sunshine and rainbows. It was enough to make your beer go flat."

He cracks me up with his complaining and teasing at their expense. I am pretty sure in the third book of the series, Sean commented to him something along the lines of, "Just you wait and see, it'll happen to you, too." So, of course, running away from them leads them right where he never knew he wanted to be.
Once he arrives at the farm where he will be working for a few weeks, he is immediately accosted by Miranda Henry. Miranda was freaking hilarious. She is bitchy as all get out, and initially comes across as self-centered and unappreciative. Personally, I found her pretty freaking awesome. She can definitely hold her own against Ringer and his antics. I like that she even manages to shock him, given the way he has flirted shamelessly in the past with other poor girls.

"...she had completely taken me over, dominating me from the first touch until I was a quivering mess who would do anything she wanted."

Obviously, I am not going to give much away in this review. Just that the two of them do not get along, causing them to pull some funny little pranks on each other, especially Miranda's first one. And the chemistry between the two is undeniable, even when they are hating each other. My only issue is that it's too short, as much as I hate to say that. I wanted more of their shenanigans, and really just more of them. Since each book includes the different characters from along the way, I am hoping we might catch a glimpse of them in the upcoming novella about Adam and Ellie. I have been waiting for that since the first book!! I really liked this and it is a definite must-read for fans of the series!! 4 Stars

The Summer Series by by C.J. Duggan has become one of my favorites and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of the Onslow Boys and the girls they love, and while I do love each of them, my favorite thus far has been Sean Murphy from An Endless Summer, the second book in the series. Well, I have to say while I do love you dearly Sean, you are going to have to step down from the throne because Ringer has taken your place as my favorite Onslow boy thus far. While I enjoyed getting to know Ringer in the other books in the series (which are companion novels), I totally fell in love with him in this book, and I can't wait for you to meet him.

Miranda Henry is the love interest in the book and the female main character. She is a biatch to the hilt, but I really did like her a lot. She was just the kind of girl Ringer needed, and I think he is probably the only one who could handle her. That said, Ringer is also just the kind of guy Miranda needed also, and probably only one who would capture her attention, as well as probably the only girl who could handle him. Their relationship was a love-hate one filled with firey passion, and while they couldn't stand each other to start with, they also couldn't deny the chemistry and the desire for one another either. I have to say that their inner rantings as well as the banter between them was hilarious and proved to provide for one entertaining read..The other Onslow boys make an appearance as well, which was awesome, and we got to meet a few new characters also.

This is a 155 page novella, but it packs a punch and leaves you feeling totally satisfied and content with both the content and the ending, giving you more the feel of a novel. There is also a wonderful epilogue, which I also adored. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, which will be Adam and Ellie's story, and will be coming out in July. If you are a contemporary romance fan, especially of the new adult genre, then this is a book and a series that stands out among the many and one I most certainly highly recommend.

Novellas are always hard to pull off ... especially if you are trying to show a relationship develop from nothing to true love. It is almost impossible to write a realistic pace for a relationship in such short time. But it's always nice to see what happens in these novellas that support wonderful series, so I grabbed this one, particularly because Ringer seemed like a fun and fascinating character in other books in the Summer series. Sadly, this story fell totally flat. It is super hard to overcome intense dislike for a main character, and oh how I disliked Miranda. In a longer novel there might have been enough time to allow her character to grow and deepen, allowing me as a reader to overcome my initial distaste and come to love her. But no. Miranda is selfish, hateful, spoiled, mean, angry ... and on and on and on. Her actions were so awful, and there wasn't enough back story to give me any reason to root for her. Ringer's initial reaction to her seemed spot on ... he couldn't stand her. And yet, in the space of less than 200 pages and I think around a week of real time this man who has practically declared himself a bachelor for life has decided that he is in love with this girl. Why on earth does this happen? It made absolutely no sense given the conversations and events of this story. I didn't feel the chemistry between these two. I didn't root for their love story. Frankly, the back story that is introduced to explain a little bit about Miranda's actions is incredibly weak. If we heard the whole story then it doesn't warrant her behavior. If there is more, then this story really suffered because of the lack of a deeper and more understandable obstacle in her past to overcome. In short, I didn't really care for this story at all. But never fear, I still love the writing of C.J. Duggan. I just feel as if this story didn't give her enough time to really showcase her talent for fleshing out characters and creating realistic and memorable relationships between friends. Two stars!

Ringer is a great addition to C.J. Duggan's series of sexy, swoony, sweet and summery books. This novella was a super quick read and, though it was a complete story that can stand on its own, I was definitely left wanting more at the end.

Ringer, the man, not the book, was a bit sullen and jaded. His friends were all pairing off into relationships and that was the absolute last thing he wanted. To escape (and help out a friend), he offers to spend the summer at his friend's father's ranch. It's there that he meets his friend's sister, Miranda. It's not exactly love at first sight. I wouldn't even call it lust at first sight. There's a certain chemistry between the two. Mainly the one that makes them want to prank and pick on each other incessantly. I loved their banter. Their tricks were creative, too. This novella was just as amusing as it was sexy and sweet. While Ringer and Miranda couldn't possibly be more different, their personalities worked well together and I just liked them. Ringer brought uppity Miranda back to Earth. Miranda made him stop and realize maybe he did really want someone to be with.

There were a lot of things I loved about this book: the setting, the characters and their development, the writing. But, hands down, what I loved the most was the comparison between how the book started and how it ended. Now, I'm not going to ruin anything for you, but there's a great parallel there that left me with a giant goofy grin on my face.

If you like summer romances and whether or not you've read the other books in this series, you have to check this one out. Of course, if you haven't read the other books in the series, you need to get on that. You don't know what you're missing! The Onslow boys are the best.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I adore CJ Duggan’s Summer series. Every time I start one of these books I can feel the sun on my back and the warm summer lake water; even if as I was reading Ringer it was snowing.

I was so excited when I found out this story was going to be about Ringer. He quickly became one of my favorite characters in That One Summer. He was sarcastic, fun, and a little bit jaded toward love. He couldn’t seem to figure out why all of his best buddies were suddenly falling in love. To get away from all this “love stuff” Ringer takes a temporary position, away from Onslow, on Max’s Dad’s property.

What Ringer doesn’t count on is Miranda Henry, Max’s sister. Miranda’s been away form the ranch and coming back has dredged up a lot of memories for her. While I understood why she acted the way she did I still couldn’t forgive her. I had a hard time liking Miranda. She was snobby, rude, and she treated Ringer kind of badly. This all bummed me out because I liked Ringer so much. I wanted him to end up with someone else. Anyone else. I will admit Miranda did get better as the story progressed but I still never found myself really liking her.

I found the change of scenery from Onslow to Ballan interesting but I thought some of the summer series magic was lost in Ballan. There is something about hanging out at the Onslow hotel with all the Onslow boys in one big group that adds that special something. I was intrigued by how different the two places were but I am definitely ready to return to Onslow in the next book in the series, Forever Summer.

Overall, I enjoyed Ringer. It wasn’t my favorite in the series but it was still fun to see all the Onslow boys and to watch Ringer change from playboy to boyfriend. If you’re a fan of the summer series or just starting Ringer is one you won’t want to miss!

Short Review:

When it comes to books written by C.J Duggan all i can say is that i love them all, those who are published.
Yep,this time what i read was too short for me but it was awesome! Why?Because it was about Ringer.

I admit that i never thought much about Ringer.Yes,i always knew that he was a part of the "Onslow Boys",but honestly i never expected to read his story and end up wishing i could read more about him.
C.J.,i want more please!

Now ,after i read about Ringer i have to admit that i like him.He was charming and good looking(well,if you only knew how i imagined him ...).

Even if i i never imagined that this day will come,i admit that Ringer made me laugh and smile a lot.He is a true "Onslow Boy",even if everything that happened in this book was in Ballan ,and not Onslow. It was funny to read how Ringer got under Miranda's skin.I laughed out loud every time something happened between them.
You know how those hate/love relationship start ,right?Well, this was exactly what happened here. But let's just say that it was awesome.
Miranda Henry's life was pretty much good-that if you don't count the fact that she had to return to Moira(her home) for a few weeks. In Ballan everyone knows who Miranda Henry ,so nothing is simple at all for her.
I admit that at first my opinion about her wasn't so good, but step by step it changed and i started thinking that she was ok.Well, every time i read a book like this one i end up changing my opinion too many times..Yikes.

But i loved the book and i'm a little sad because it was too short.I want more!I want to read more about Ringer and Miranda...and everything!
I can say that even if it was short everything was perfect.Funny and perfect, the kind of book you must read!

I was super excited and honoured to be invited to receive an eARC of Ringer for review - so a big thanks to Duggan and her team! I am a big fan of the Summer Series, in part because it's set in my home country and written by an Aussie author, but mainly because they they are just so good!

Anywho, Ringer is one of my favourite characters in the series, and I was thrilled to be getting the opportunity to get in his head.

I think the only thing that I could nitpick about, is that it wasn't long enough! I realise that being a novella, it can't be too long, and this is also the first novella I have read of Duggan's. I think she may have had some difficulties with the as well. The pace is very fast and a lot happens over such a short period. I think that novella spans maybe a week or just under, and to me that seemed a bit of an unrealistic time for things to develope to the extent that they did (see how skillfully I phrased my opinion on the ending without giving it away? Props for Renae!).

Now that that is out of the way, I tell you what I love about Ringer. As always with Duggan's writing, Ringer is a laugh a minute with all the flirty banter that balances well with the few steamy moments that she throws in. I think that this book is a bit more explicit that the book in the series, which took me a bit for surprise, but by no means takes things too far.

Ringer is a feel-good read that is perfect for those afternoons when you just want to curl up with a cute book and read the night away. As always, Duggan fails to disappoint and her latest installment in her Summer Series is one that I recommend along with the rest of the series.

What I Thought: OH MY LORDY. Every time. EVERY SINGLE TIME. You think you know which is your favourite Onslow boy, BUT YOU DON'T. Sure, you have seen enough of each and you love them all and you might even think you love one more than the other, but really you are just kidding yourself. Duggan keeps bringing us closer, deeper to these swoon-worthy boys she has created, and each time I fall for them a little bit more.

This time was no different. Ringer is sick of the love-fest in Onslow, and he takes the first opportunity to get away for awhile. But of course, things are never quite that simple for the Onslow boys and for Ringer it is no different. Once he meets Miranda Henry, the games begins. She may look like an angel but it's the devil she has in her eyes as she and Ringer go down a path that there is no coming back from. There was a lot of fun, jokes and craziness but in the end, there is the love that we want to see and we sure do get it.

Ringer is similar to the other books in the summer series - as in there is hot man-candy, crazy women and sexy moments that make me blush like a little girl. But Ringer is a different Onslow boy and that makes his story different to the others. If you love the Summer series, then this one will be no different. If you haven't read the summer series, then unfortunately we can't be friends.

The Good: Ringer the sexy bad boy, who does naughty things, who learns to love - it's absolutely gorgeous to read.

The Bad: I STILL CAN'T DECIDE WHO MY FAVOURITE ONSLOW BOY IS! Maybe after the series is completely finished I will be able to decide... But the thought of that day coming upsets me greatly - I won't ever be ready to leave these boys (and girls) behind.

Rating: 5 stars

A pretty good short addition to the Summer series. I'll admit that Ringer was probably the character I though least likely to have his story told. I thought Stan's story would be fit in somewhere but that seems to have been taken care of throughout the other books and aside from Adam and Ellie (the subjects of the upcoming fourth book), Ringer appears to be the last character standing. The story was short, but still well-written like all the others. I laughed watching Ringer trying so desperately to escape the lovey-dovey atmosphere in his group of friends only to fall into the trap himself with Miranda - the spoiled and stuck-up owners' daughter of the farm where he has taken a temporary job. Their constant prank-war and verbal sparring was fun and entertaining and I liked the dual perspective the novella was written in - something this author hasn't done before. My only complaint about the book was that it was short and I felt like Miranda never really sat down and dealt with her issues or what she was doing with her life beyond deciding that she wanted a relationship with Ringer. I also felt like I didn't get to see much of Ringer's story aside from the present - no family, background or anything like with all the other main characters whose POV I got to see from the first three books. This wasn't a bad thing but I think it definitely made the story feel a bit more rushed than the others and highlighted the fact that this was a novella not a full book. I'd still recommend reading it if you like the Summer series and are waiting for the fourth book (Adam and Ellie's story) to come out. It's a good quick read that I found funny and entertaining but I wouldn't say it's really necessary to read if you just want to continue on to the fourth book when it comes out.
