When you owe a man for saving your life, calling in a favor isn’t a big deal. Right?
Nicholas “Nick” Karras, hot-shot Air Force veteran once flew missions in the war zone. Now he flies under the radar. When Gabe Rossi calls in a favor, the last thing Nick expects is playing white knight to a young mother on the run.
With the lives of her twins on the line, who can she trust?
Peony "Peni" Comanescu is coerced into becoming the surrogate mother for a powerful man. He wants a son for his heir. A daughter is just a messy complication. When Peni discovers the depth of his evil, she runs away to save her newborn children. With a million dollar bounty on her head, Peni and her twins hide at Barefoot Bay, sheltered by strangers.
When a Romanian mobster arrives to claim his son, there’s only one thing to do…
Determined to protect Peni and her children, Nick calls in reinforcements. With two babies caught in the crossfire, there’s more than love at stake—there’s DOUBLE TROUBLE for Nick and his friends.

I love Roxanne St. Claire's Barefoot Bay series. I love Silver James. I was so totally excited to learn they were working together to bring this novella out. YAY! And it delivers on its promise to be awesome. I loved Nick. I loved Peni. I loved the babies. And I loved the resolution of both the romance and the suspense angles.
Our heroine is on the run with children that she had for a seriously evil man. Of course she didnt know that at the time and he only wants one of them, the other and her, well they would probably go swimming. Enter our hero, called in to be her bodyguard and her escape pilot, he finds himself attached to her in ways he doesn't understand. When push comes to shove our hero does everything to protect her and the children.
I really enjoyed the story but there were quite a few editing mistakes. The story line is really good. I enjoyed getting to know Nick and Peni! There's a bit of a suspense aspect to the story that was really good also. This is a new to me author and I enjoyed this story enough that I will be checking out her other books.
2021 reread: Okay. I'm freaking rating my own book. I don't normally go back and read my own work once I've published it--mainly because writing, editing, revising, editing, revisiting, publishing it leads to overread syndrome. But there are characters in this book that link to my current book and I couldn't remember the exact thing that happened. So I started reading it. And you know what? Damn if it isn't pretty good stuff. Why do I always find that surprising? Anyway, I found the incident, I finished the book, and I enjoyed touching base with Nick, Peni, the folks at Barefoot Bay, and the Hard Target team. If someone else had written this book, I'd give it 5 stars so I'm giving them to myself!
Original: I'm so excited to be getting my feet wet in Roxanne St. Claire's Barefoot Bay Kindle World--especially since I could write a companion novella to my Hard Target series. Nick Karras, the hero of Double Trouble, and Dominc Karras, the HT teams pilot, are cousins. There might even be some cameo appearances for you Hard Target fans. *wink wink*
A perfect fit for Barefoot Bay when you have Gabe Rossi looking for help. He calls in a favor and reaches out to his buddy Nick Karras who is a retired Air Force veteran. When they found out the details about why this women Peony is running with little kids, they both will do whatever possible to protect them. Well Nick will pose as her husband. They will play the happy couple. Nick was not prepared for this job but he found himself falling for Peony, and her twins.
Peony was running for her life with her children. She feared for the men whould take them away from her. The man who fathered her children wanted her son. When an old man named Uncle Nino helped her. Several people helped her. She wasn't very sure of this.
When she woke up in a man's lap she was confused to say the least. It was Nick who calmed her down a bit. At first she was scared of him, but he turned out be so good to her, and her children.
See what will happen. It's really good. Very good book. My first book by Silver James.
Gabe Rossi. That name alone makes me want to devour a book, but I will admit Nick gives Gabe a run for his money in this one. Nino see a young mother being attacked at the store with a thug taking one of her twin babies. Went Nino finds her again he begs Gabe to help her. They aren’t sure what she is running from until a flyer crosses Gabe’s desk. He calls in a favor Nick owes him. Nick will be her bodyguard well as her fake husband until Gabe can get her a new life. Peni is running from the mobster who fathered her children. He only wants her son. Peni and her daughter are just in his way. Not sure who she can trust the only thing she knows is she has to protect her kids.
This is one of my favorite Kindle World novellas. Then again I like books about hot guys with guns. When I finished this book I immediately went to Siler James’s website to see what other books she had. I gotta admit. Dom intrigues me.
Gabe is back with his business of helping people who need a new identity and a new location. There is a very bad man after Peony Comanescu and Gabe’s Uncle Nino thinks she needs help. Gabe calls in a favor from an old friend, Nicholas Karras, to help with the job of keeping Peony and her twin babies safe. Nick was surprised when he saw the beautiful woman he had come to keep safe and he sure didn’t know anything about babies; however, he fell into the role quite nicely.
This is my favorite of this new set of barefoot bay stories. Gabe is a favorite so any story line with him and Uncle Nino as well as Poppy in it gets my attention. This was a very well written story, the plot was a nail bitter and it all came together very nicely in the end. Loved this one!
Good addition to the Barefoot Bay Kindle World. Double Trouble is a good mix of romance & suspense. Peni & her twins are in danger from a criminal. Nick happens to be in the right place to help her. The plot has a good premise & flows quickly. The pace doesn't keep you from developing an emotional connection with the characters though. The characters are well developed & very entertaining. From the attempted kidnapping at the very beginning, Silver James pulls you into the story & creates that first emotional connection. Through the twists of the plot & the interaction between Nick, Peni & the twins, she keeps you engaged to the end. Very good book!
Loved reading the story of Nick and Peni! Nick fell hard and quick for Peni and staked his life on keeping her and the babies safe! Peni had to deal with trust for those around her, slowly learning to trust herself as well. Great read watching them fall in love and make a life together!
