While this story was way better than the first book of this series, it was still a shit show. In this story, we learn about the girl that Dom loved. We meet Triss at a time of her life where she's struggling and that wasn't always the case, she lived a pretty good life with her father but the minute her stepmother Nancy came along, things started to change. But Nancy came with her kids Dom and Kim who became very close with Triss especially Dom who became her best friend and eventually they crossed that line. But a lie was told about Triss and the entire family turned their back on her for years. Why would Dom just believe the lie and not try to find out the truth and just go along with it for years. Triss ends up forgiving him but, she should have made him grovel for way longer. Some secrets are revealed and the truth comes to light, but I was still underwhelmed.
WTH was this! Again just like the first book, this book was lacking majorly. 3 hour lost from my precious day.
Cliche plot. EVIL mother, engineers so that everyone (girl's father and the step brother, her boyfriend) kicks the step daughter out of the house. No one trusts her even though they loved her. There is a twist in the story. I expected it to come but when it didnt until the middle part of story I thought I was wrong but no, I was was wrong. I would have bought all of it, the hero's stupidity, the father's gullibility, the step sisters cunningness, the evil step mother IF the author had tied the lose ends nicely.
There was no repercussion to the evil mother on the screen. I mean telling the readers taht the hero took care of it is unacceptable. Why do I have to know about the Ash in this story when there was no mention of the details of her trauma in her book. I mean it would have made sense to talk in that book. There should have been a session between Sawyer and Ash in book1 about her trauma but nooooo, no deep discussions with this author. Again in this book, there is no addressing of why his mother did what she did. Yes the heroine suspected that the mother didnt like her but why? Why not show all that to the reader, the mother's meanness towards heroine. One incident in the bathroom is not enough. Clearly she hated the heroine. We got that from her sentence about "bitch" when they met first time after so long but where was the build up? We are told that hero apparently cared about his mom very much but the first time we see their interaction we see him "looking at her in different eye"??? What? Where was the build up about the love he had for his mother? For some reason I didnt like Amber in this story. I just didnt.
What happened to that check she cashed in eventually? She was so afraid of the lash but nothing. That lien went into blackhole! I don't have an issue with her cashing it. But it was unnecessary and jump the gun situation now esp with her fear about the step mom gloating reaction. She reacted prematurely. Could have waited a day to read into the will and see what the father left her.
What happened to that letter left to her by her father? She made such a big deal about wanting to read it herself. I was sure that we would get to hear the rest of the letter but no... that was dropped too. The father wanted the letter to be read in front of all of them because he wanted to expose the step mom and everyone but I get the feeling that there was more otherwise why would he include rest in that letter. He could have written a separate letter to his daughter if he wanted to keep it personal.
There was no depth in the story. It felt that author started writing the book and was invested in it and then suddenly lost all interest and just wanted to wrap up.
I really wanted to like this book because I liked the characters adn the story line was not bad but writing was really bad. I am so angry that I am going to address the lack of proper editor too which I have never done in any other books.
This is my new favorite from Terri! The amount of emotions packed into this short on top of that is amazing! I started this book late last night and it was a one sitting read!
I wasn't expecting the storyline between Dom and Triss. I loved the twist that Terri worked into the story. I'm excited to see what more is to come from this series of shorts!
Well this one was certainly better than the first one in the series.....still slightly Jerry Springer ish with all the drama....step brother/step sister... big misunderstanding (that I certainly would not have forgiven the Hero for not listening and believing) Evil step mother....secret baby that is being raised as her sister?? Still entertaining and as I said much better than book 1!!! Still not the Rocker Series caliber though.....:)
Okay so generally I would rate MCs, plot, story etc. But with this book I think giving stars in minus is very disrespectful, and don't want to do that. I just didn't like the book. And I am kind of ashamed because for a fraction of second I wanted to rate it more than a star. What can I say, I am sucker for a good HEA.
I don't know what I disliked more, the MCs or the way story leads. TBH, I wouldn't have mind if the MCs didn't end up together. There were so many issues I don't even know where to begin with .
Final thoughts: What a waste of time. Would I recommend it? Definitely not.
I enjoyed the book, but ......Triss forgave Dom to quickly it was unbelievable. I believe in forgiveness and I would have forgiven him, but taking him back, am not sure about that ..because he didn't trust her enough to believe her or believe in her, if he did then he would have known she would never do anything like that and for 7 years he did not seek her out once, not one time and if he was sooooo in love with her as he claimed then he would have still checked on her himself even if from the shadows. Dom was the other word for donkey (am being nice) and caught Truss at one of the weakest moments in he life.. I would have like more information on the shrew that birth him, and his crackhead sister. Triss father should not have left them anything, but when you think about it he was just as guilty as they were and he knew it.
I would recommend this book and am looking forward to the next.
I had a few problems with this story, which is why it took me a bit to finish. The narration was pretty good. I enjoyed that. However plot wise, I was side eyeing the entire thing. Why did her dad lie to Dom and claim he was still helping her with school and her cellphone? Why was Tris struggling so much with her sisters financially? In real life, I'm sure her mother would have recieved survivor's benefits after the death of Tris's stepfather. Also my aunt had cancer and even before her death, she was able to get social security benefits which transferred to her children after her death. Did her mother not qualify for that? I believe the part about Tris making too much to qualify for government assistance. I know this is fiction, but when you present a book like this, I need a bit more realism. I just don't like that everything was supposed to be realistic except for this one important part of the story.
I struggled with this one. Dom and Triss as lovers separated because of a terrible misunderstanding were likable enough but the story became just too silly for me. Dom acted so stupidly all those years ago and I can't believe it took him so long to get his head on straight and realize just how innocent Triss was wrt to his sister and evil mother.
It had potential but I just couldn't wrap my head around the way Dom treated Triss and I honestly wanted her to never speak to him again.
I did like book 1 in this series and won't be put off by reading more. I am a huge fan of the author and usually love her work. This one just fell flat. Oh well.
Normally I love the strong female stories but I have to say that Dim (Dom) was Dum. I couldn't believe the author put in that his friends even tried to get him straight on the wrongness of the situation with his stepsister. Sorry.
This book had many good, emotional parts that were well done. However, a lot of the rest felt as though no thought was out into how someone would logically act. There are 3 big problems I had that are the reason for me giving only 2 stars. (Spoilers ahead)
1) No grovel. He doesn't even apologize for not believing in her or questioning the facts. Ridiculous. 2) He doesn't tell her when her mother is in her last moments. WTF?! And then he calls to tell her that her mother has died, doesn't even do it in person?! On what planet would this ever be ok. I hated that she didn't get to be there if she had wanted to. 3) As someone who was wealthy, then so poor she wasn't eating properly, it defies logic that she would give all the money away. Corporations fail all the time, so income from them is not guaranteed. This was a plot point I did not feel was very well thought out, same with the other 2. It was an impulsive, stupid, CHILDISH action.
Anyhow 2 stars I won't be reading any other books in the series.
Not this authors best book. It’s more a novella but it really needed more because some things were too shortened up and it was not right. The heroine is a teenager and is in love with her stepbrother and he with her, then her evil stepmother that makes Cinderella stepmother look like an angel, traps her when her daughter overdoses and she hides drugs in the heroines bedroom. The heroines father throws her out and she goes to live with her mother. Years later she’s broke, her mum is dying with cancer and she has a lil daughter and a lil sister to care for. Her dad died but he found out the truth about his wife and so he left everything to his daughter. The hero who believed the lies is remorseful, he is basically instantly forgiven. No real comeuppance for the evil stepmother and junkie sister. Nope. I like my heroines to be vengeful bitches, not losers like this one. I would have taken the money, lived a merry life and sent the hero and his whore mother to hell.
I was pulled into this story from the start, staying there until I had finished every single word that was written, all the while I had my mini movie playing in my head. This book is full of surprises from start to finish, some you may see coming, some you won't. Some of the surprises are large and some are small. Some may even pull on your heart strings. But each and every single one of the surprise, hold equal importance within the story. They all aid in making this book the fantastic story that it is. The emotions that the characters go through, can be felt, I actually went through each and every emotion that the characters did. I cried slightly more than they had. I know I will go through each and everyone of them again at the same places no matter how many times I read it. I have actually got this book on audible.
I didn’t much care for this book. An evil stepmother that tears her son (Dom ) stepdaughter (Triss) apart. How Triss waited seven years for Dom to come get her, and for him to see the true identity of his mother Nancy. I think the story was a bit lost when it came to Nancy, The evil bitch of a step mother. I would have liked to see how she lives and copes after her husband Richard passed and all the cruel and mean things she had done to Triss. And what happens to Kim after she goes to rehab, did she have any remorse? Of the way she played on her brother Dom and Triss? A few questions need answering...
This one was much deeper than the previous book, heck there was even a chapter in this one dedicated to what left me scratching my head in the last one. I liked Triss and Dom, the back story was really good. I really liked all of the secondary characters, I was a bit surprised that after Nancy issued the threat to Triss, she just up and disappeared from the story; with just a little side note about how he threatened to expose her and she went quietly. I loved that the girls got to have a happy family and the ending was cute.
Fan of Terri Anne Browning's books. These are more on the shorter side but they're still good. Took me a minute to remember who Dom was from the previous book but then it all clicked into place. And I got answers to some questions I had in book one. This book had me tearing up. The actions of one person can destroy many lives. And that's basically what you see in this book. But they do get their hea.
1. If Triss’ father found out the truth about the night that Kim overdosed, why didn’t he try to make things up with Triss? And, why didn’t he tell Dom the truth as well? 2. When Triss fainted at the hospital, Dom let her just get up and drive herself home afterward? I’m pretty sure a doctor would be a little bit more careful. 3. Badly needed editing. Poor grammar, improper words, sentence fragments.

Wow! What a great follow up novella! Had me sobbing from start to finish. Triss' story really touched me especially the way she lost her father. The story moved on pretty quickly and I wish this was a full length novel as I feel like the progression of Dom and Triss' relationship could be expanded and explored further. Can't wait for the next one. This series surprised me. I didn't think I'd love it as much as I do now. Kudos Terri Anne for another winner!
Loved this book. Dom and Triss were robbed of many years because of greed and jealousy. I was so happy that there were able to finally find out the truth of what kept them apart and then finally be together! This novella was filled with so many emotions!! Thank you Terri Anne for another amazing story!!!
I love, love, love these Novellas!! This was one was just great. I felt so sorry for Triss and all that she went through. You think you have it figured out, then a twist comes that was not expected. I loved the characters and the way that she brought the others in from the first book. Excellent!!!
His stolen secret is another short story by Terri that will blow your mind. Even though it's short, it has secrets that pack a punch. We met Dom in book one, as Ash's best friend and doctor. Triss is his step-sister and someone he feels and cares deeply for until an unfortunate incident pushes the family limits. Loved the great HEA:) Worth the read!
Triss went from a life of luxury to having to struggle for food and clothing. A lie destroys her because nobody believes her. Dom believes the like he is told for years until the truth comes out. This is a great story!
I LOVED this novella!!! It was so precious!! Those baby girls just tugged at my heart strings!!! Triss was so strong even when she thought she was weak. I never saw that turn of events happening!!! It was the perfect lil novella!
It took my a while to place who Dom was and how the 2 books connected. Dom and Triss are HOTT together. I really enjoyed their story. I wanted to smack him and Triss's father for believing all of the lies. Another great book by Terri Ann Browning
So good! And finally explained what happened to Ash, from His Dirty Little Secret, seven years ago, when she went on assignment and was injured. I hope there are more of this series. Maybe Brice's story? ;)
This is a perfect little novella of a second chance romance. Even though it is short it is a complete story with a very satisfying end. Throughly enjoyed this story.
Secret romances, evil stepmothers, heartbreaking deaths and overcoming obstacles are all apart of Triss's life, and I rooted for her to get her happy ending. I adored Triss and Dom's story.
This was so much better than the first book from the His Secret series. We were finally able to know about Ash's story and what happened to her giving us closer on a completely different story. Other than that this gave me some Cinderella vibes, but not really...
I had to skip few pages to go to the end. I wasn’t fan of the flashback chapters, especially in a novella. Too short already. We missed so much information it killed, the letter for instance. Or when Dom talked to his mom. Nope. We were robbed of the comeuppance of the mother. Nada. Rien. Niet. 😤
