Bear-shifter and embassy guard Hector Gorchan expected that finding his mate would be an unforgettable moment, the experience of a lifetime. It’s what he was told growing up. Now that he’s an adult though, he’s realized a new truth: If his mate is a human, everything is going to be different. So when fate conspires to show him his mate in the form of the short, pregnant woman with the pink hair, he knows he’ll have to approach things differently, taking it slow so as not to scare her and her child away.
Rachel’s life has been busy since her arrival in Cloud Lake. She’s dedicated her time to setting up various support groups for the women victimized by the hideous Institute. They’re all dealing with the same issue, and she figures that having others to share their experiences with is the best thing they’ll get. It’s all she expected to have, until Hector walked into her life and stole her heart.
But just as their relationship begins to take off, they hit a patch of unexpected turbulence. A fire at the Cadian shifter embassy in Cloud Lake has left Hector in a world of trouble that threatens to engulf Rachel with it. The circumstances behind it are sketchy and coincidental as all hell, but why would anyone be out to harm him? Things only get worse when an order comes down recalling him to Cadia. Permanently. Can he find a way to fix his situation, or will fate rip their bond apart before they realize it’s there?
Amelia Jade loves to write the stories of tall, growly shifter men and the women who come to love them. Living out in the back-country near the mountains, she keeps her own alpha male close by, to keep the bears away and keep her warm. In her down time (which is rare), she loves to read science-fiction with a dash of fantasy. You can often find her curled up in front of the real wood-burning fireplace, her nose firmly buried in a book or her favorite ereader. The cold can't bother her there!

Big Bad Bear Daddy is full of intense, often surprising situations for our Embassy guards this time around. Hector had met Rachel under strained circumstances in Big Bad Bear Dad. But that didn’t stop his recognition of his mate or his determination to wear down her constant turn downs for a chance to get together. But he was losing hope until he was encouraged to try just one more time. Just as their romance seems to have a chance Hector finds himself in deep trouble when disaster strikes while on his shift at the embassy. It only took a moment, but that moment was all it took to change a life.
Rachel was so busy putting together support groups for the women duped by the Institute that she found it easy to put off Hector’s invitations. She couldn’t believe he really wanted anything to do with her and was only being nice. She didn’t need pity. The truth is she’s afraid to trust in her feelings for this shifter. And eventually, with the teasing support of her friends, will give in to that one date that will change everything.
I’m going to make the choice of not saying anything more at this point in order to avoid any spoilers. Hector and Rachel’s story is sweet and steamy, tense and dangerous. I admit to having suspicions from the beginning – that only made the rest of the story an intense drive to the reveal. A story line well played out, a couple who work well, and the chance to see some characters we’ve come to know acting a bit differently than we are accustomed to. In all, Big Bad Bear Daddy is an intense. sexy, mysterious romance that I would recommend for any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.

3.5 stars. I really LOVE all these Cadia linked stories but this one is not one of my favourites. This one started off very well, however it didn’t grab me like the other books have. I found it not up to the usual standards and I just found the whole romance aspect between Rachel and Hector lacking reality. Rachel is another victim of The Institute. She seemed a bit weak in that she needed all these committees to give her life reason. Yes, they were good ideas and the support groups were badly needed but she didn’t need to attend EVERY meeting. Get them up and running and delegate to give someone else a purpose in their life. I did actually start to like her when she stood up for Hector and came up with solid ideas about what had happened. Hector is an Embassy guard and has been wanting to date Rachel for weeks but keeps getting turned down. Whilst I felt really sorry for Hector for just trying to do the right thing over the argument outside the embassy, he could have handled it better. I was really annoyed at his behaviour in sneaking out just to see Rachel and attacking his fellow guard Martin. So not good behaviour and not how I expected him to behave. He lost his hero status at this point. Then he compounds it with one hell of a pity party and keeps drinking after being beaten. So weird. I only kept reading as I wanted to know if who I suspected as the baddie was actually the baddie. Did like the ending but still no connection to the two H’s. This is my honest review of this book.
"Her heart was so full just then that she thought she might explode." That's how this story makes me feel, Hector and Rachel's story is one for the ages - filled with love, passion, action, family, hardship, betrayal and vindication. It has something for everyone who loves this genre and never fell into the trap of being sappy or preachy. There were good, honest emotions from characters who were genuine and very human (their Shifter sides notwithstanding). Ms. Jade once again delivers a powerhouse of a story in the world of the Shifters of Cadia, and I hope she will continue to tell us stories from this world. There is also a bonus scene that is icing on the cake. I received a complimentary copy from the author and have voluntarily chosen to review.
Two minutes changed Hector's life just when he thought everything was lining up. Rachel was just trying to focus on herself and her child and never factored in becoming a mate. One person is out to destroy him, but Rachel is determined to keep him. Will Rachel accept what she is to Hector? Will Hector figure out what happened before it is to late?
I loved both of these character's personalities. I do think that the shifters have proven in this one that they are definitely naive in some ways even with their strength. I loved Rachel's determination not to give up. I could understand Hector's thinking, but was happy that he decided to act before it was to late. Great read!

Hector is a guard at the Cadia Embassy in Cloud Lake. Rachel is one of the pregnant females the Institute conned into their program.
The Fated Mates are stand alone books but revolve around the secondary characters from the other series. Love the fact the author decided to give them a voice. This book will give you murder, betrayal, punishment, and small scale destruction. I like the independence for the regular Cadian storyline.
I have read and voluntarily reviewed this book received from the author without obligation to do so.
My favorite shifters are bear shifters. I love their size, their strength, their protective streak and who doesn't love bear hugs? Big Bad Bear Daddy introduced some new bears to me - the Cadia bears. I am very much looking forward to reading more about these bear shifters in the future. I also like that this book is a mixture of romance, mystery and action. But, for me, there was a feeling of disconnect toward the characters. I just didn't feel their emotions coming through on the pages. Still, this is a series well worth reading. Enjoy!
I really loved Rachel from the start. She isn't the typical romance heroine, she isn't a 'model' beauty that's tall and thin. I loved that she was more realistic and on the shorter side. And the pink hair was an added bonus that I just liked about her. A few minor things about Hector bothered me to start, but I got past them pretty quickly and he really grew on me. They made a very adorable couple, and I really enjoyed reading their story. I was gifted a copy.
The embassy guards are tight, so when one is replaced there's a little awkwardness while everyone finds there place. But all isn't what it seems and when someone dies one of the guards is blamed and life at the embassy gets strained. It takes one of the human mates to start connecting the dots before the rest of the guys catch up.
Amelia, thank you so very much for giving me this world of happily ever afters to escape to. Please, please, please, keep them coming. You are such an excellent story teller and are one of my top 5 all time best authors to read. Much appreciation. Forever a fan.
This was another great great story, Hector and Rachel their developing love for each other and the road blocks put in their way and the, over coming them. I couldn't put it down just had to finish it. Can't wait for more from Cloud Lake!
Relationships aren't easy for these human women and shifter men. They meet, feel an attraction, but something gets in the way. This time it's the events at the embassy. It takes a stubborn woman to make this bear see sense. A great addition to the series.
This was such a cute couple to read about. Hector and Rachel find their new found love bring tested after Hector was has been setup. While trying to determine what happened to cause the fire and why someone would want to get rid of Hector, this couple proves that love wins every time.
This story had me on edge the entire time. While I kind of new the who it was the why that got me. Man I was trying to figure it out and I was so wrong. You will love it.
Oh a shifter tale that has you wondering if it won't work out
Hector left his post for two minutes, resulting in a fire and a death. Because of that he is going to be sent back to the shifter enclave right after he found a human mate. Humans aren't allowed in the enclosure.
When bad people use good intentions against honest people you get this story. Hector is a bear shiftet, security for the ambassador and embassy of shifter Cadia in human Cloud Lake. He's true blue, worthy of his post and believes in his fellow shifters. When he meets Rachel, his true mate, he believes his life is perfect. That's when things start to unravel on him. Fortunately, Rachel, being a human, is more suspicious than Hector. It isn't long before she starts putting together the pieces of Hector's bad luck. Good to see a human's skepticism make the difference in a plotline. Nice to see Rachel and Hector fight for each other, and win.

Interesting paranormal romance featuring a strong protective alpha ready to settle down with a mate, in Hector's case, an spit fire gal ( Rachel) already carrying a baby.
