The author's artwork is really well done and she interjects genuine humor into her writing. While the book was a bit one note at times, it really did give me a semblance of an idea of what it was like to be a new mom without never getting the chance to experience it. ...more

It begins by dumping a bunch of characters together with little to no introductions to any of them. But I kept at it and as I read, characters were slowly fleshed out, some more than others. At its core, this is a book about friendship and also about trauma and how much it can shape who we are. This book was an epic read in all sense of the word, but it also was one that I finished in the course of just a few nights, devoting about 2-3 hours to getting through 200-300 pages. By the end, I was deep within the world that the author created and inside the (troubled) heads of its characters. There were some characters I wish we had more time with and who just served as side character to our main character of Jude. But don't' get me wrong, this was an unforgettable and well written novel that will cause the reader to go through a multitude of emotion, with sadness taking predominant forefront. I am sad it is over but I am glad I took the time to take this reading journey....more

The main character, Sharif is married to Adjoua who is pregnant with his child. It is discovered that their future daughter has childhood cancer and can't be around their beloved dog, Judy. Sharif is determined to find Judy a new home and brings him to the home of Emmanuel, a Haitian immigrant who lives with his son, Jr. What follows is a series of events that will change all parties involved. This book kept my attention the entire time. I enjoyed all of the main characters and the interactions between them, and even some of the more colorful side characters as well. This was a well polished novel!...more

She is reluctant to leave her beloved Bubbe behind but is excited to be herself. Will Hannah find her place in the city? Or will she be forced to move back home? The book was a fun read, but I wish there had been a bit more closure with some of the characters, in particular one of the people she meets in San Francisco. This is a good coming of age LGBT story....more

Jenni lives on a vacation island with her hard working mother. One summer, she befriends a boy named Timmy who mysteriously vanishes into the water. Fast forward many years and Jenni is an author who has two children and is estranged from her husband. She encounters Timmy who reappears and hasn't aged. Who is he and why is he back? This book was what would be called "magical realism." It was strange and fun at times, but overall, it dragged for me in the second half. I also felt that there were a bit too many pages filled with sound effects that were a bit excessive....more

Freya comes back to her hometown after she finds out her parents passed away, whom she is estranged from. She moves back into her childhood home and discovers her niece, Aubrey is living there. This book contained a lot of characters, all of which were very well developed and interesting and had a lot of personality. The writing was excellent and despite it being a pretty long book, the book flowed nicely and kept my interest throughout. If you like family dramas with a few twists and turns, you will enjoy this one....more

The main character is a woman named Zippy who works in a department store that is high end. She is considered to be one of their best salesgirls and spends time interacting with her coworkers and making fun of them. In her personal life, she is dealing with her stepfather's ailing health and her estranged father. The book had two plots that intersected in a dull way. I didn't care for most of the sections that took place when Zippy wasn't at work....more

Our main character, Linda, works for a content moderator where she spends her days reading comments on different videos. She has little to no dating experience and has never had a boyfriend. But there is a reason for this: she is in love with airplanes and feels that an airplane is her soulmate. Her goal in life is to die in a fiery plane crash, which will culminate in her "marriage" to the airplane. This was a crazy journey and one that I loved from beginning to end. I really liked the main character, who was both very frustrating but incredibly sympathetic at the same time. I especially loved the interactions between Linda and her best friend Karina, who was interesting and well written. This is not a book that I would recommend to just anyone, but if you like strange books with unique plots, this one is a good one....more
