This one really focused on worldbuilding as we went to the islands for each god/goddess. Learned more about Andarna. And about many of the cadets. And, shocking noone, this ended in a cliffhanger....more

I kind of wish I lived in a world where I could quit my regular job and open a tea shop bookstore with very little worry that I won't have enough money to be comfortable. But maybe I'd do coffee, not tea. ;)

Too much I did not particularly love this book but I didn't hate it. My friend Jenny told me that she wasn't a fan, and I should have taken the hint. Too much "oh I can't love him" and "I'm too evil for her" and not enough of the actual plot and story. I didn't see the twist coming until basically the reveal, so I'll grant that part was good but the rest wasn't tolerable enough to make up for it. Unless someone tells me that the sequel is far better, I don't think I'll read it, even though this one ends on a bit of a cliffhanger....more

I may quibble with some of the resolution, but I enjoyed seeing the pieces fit together and enjoyed how it all worked out. Also (spoiler includes spoilers for ACOTAR 5), (view spoiler)[I am intrigued to see if the dagger, sword, and mask all play a role in a future ACOTAR book, since in this book we see that Nesta and Cassian are mates, which we found at the end of ACOTAR 5 but NOW they have the Starsword in addition to Truthteller....so many thoughts to see where that could go (hide spoiler)]....more

I started this book on the day I headed home from London and then got covid so kind of ignored it for awhile. Then I picked it back up and the first 450 pages were good but then THINGS GOT CRAZY. And then the last 100 pages IT WENT EVEN MORE INSANE. I read most of the back half of this book on a Saturday afternoon and then the last 65 pages when I woke up on Sunday. Wow. I had planned to read something else before going on to book 3 but yeah no I'm not doing that. Right into book 3 I go....more

After the first section of the book getting to know two characters well, for one to be more or less out of the picture for the rest was odd. It started strong and I was really excited, but eventually it kind of started feeling like a Dan Brown book and felt like some of the things they needed to do were too easy. I guess it's ok, it's a bridge book to the third and it definitely leaves things dangling enough to merit a book 3, but it just overall seemed too easy....more

I really had no idea what to expect. I bought it at a local bookstore where the author was in person, signing copies. I saw that it was blurbed by the author of The Golem and the Jinni, which I liked a lot, so I picked it up. Even halfway in, I didn't know really what to expect, but it went very quickly after that. Nadine is a jinn, and her jinn role is to tell the stories of the dead to help them pass into their equivalent of heaven or hell. She does this by eating pomegranate seeds, the souls of the people. However, death herself is dying, and Nadine must help her while trying to also protect her own daughter.
