SK9771 : The Baron of Riches
taken 10 years ago, near to Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England
Henry de Bohun was Earl of Hereford and Constable of England from 1199 to 1220. He married Maud de Mandeville. In the civil war that followed Magna Carta, he was also a supporter of King Louis VIII of France and was captured at the Battle of Lincoln in 1217. He died while on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1220.
800 years ago in June 1215, Magna Carta was sealed by King John in the presence of 25 Barons at Runnymede and Lincoln has one of four copies of ‘The Great Charter’. As part of the 800th anniversary celebrations, the Lincoln Barons Charter Trail Link
presents sculptures by Chris Wilkinson in the style of a Lewis chess piece, decorated by local artists and sponsored by local businesses. The trail passes through the heart of historic Lincoln where the 25 Lincolnshire-themed colourful sculptures are sited at significant locations for three months from June 13th to September 13th 2015 before being auctioned on behalf of The Trussell Trust Link
