00:00 Hello and thanks for watching, I'm Jack with London World reporting from outside
00:05 HMP Wandsworth where serious questions are being asked after a prisoner escaped
00:11 on the morning of September the 6th. Daniel Abed Khalif, 21 years old, was
00:17 awaiting trial at HMP Wandsworth in London after being accused of leaving
00:21 fake bombs at a military base. Now it is believed that he escaped via a prison
00:27 kitchen by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery van. Extra
00:33 security checks at airports have since led to significant delays especially at
00:37 Gatwick and Heathrow yesterday. The prison service is working with the
00:41 Metropolitan Police to urgently investigate how Mr. Khalif was able to
00:46 escape. Commander Murphy said counter-terror officers were being
00:51 deployed across London where the search is being focused but he has admitted
00:56 that Mr. Khalif could be anywhere in the country at the moment and that the
01:01 service are aware of the risk of him potentially leaving the country. Now
01:07 questions are also being privately asked in government about whether or not it
01:11 was appropriate that Mr. Khalif was being held at a lower security prison
01:15 rather than a high security facility like Belmarsh in southeast London. It is
01:22 understood that number 10 is being kept updated on the situation. A spokesman has
01:26 said that an internal investigation is underway and the Justice Secretary is
01:30 working to understand from operational colleagues this evening both the
01:34 categorisation, decision and the situation that led to this escape. What
01:39 protocols were in place and if they were followed? At the moment here outside HMP
01:44 Wandsworth there's a bit of an eerie feel there's a lot of press crews and
01:47 cameras and also a lot of public outside the prison trying to gauge a better
01:52 understanding of the situation. Head to Londonworld.com for more.
