After doing Root Canal Treatment the remaining tooth structure is accessed for its structural integrity to resist itself against the forces of occlusion(chewing forces) and its is also accessed whether the remaining tooth structure will retain the crown(cap) or not. It is generally recommended to do Post and Core after root canal treatment as most of the tooth structure is already lost due to tooth decay and then part of tooth structure is lost for preparing access for instruments for root canal treatment( RCT). It is therefore recommended to put a post along with core build up material/cements. Choice of placing a post (Custom post or Fibre Post) or whether to place a post or not to place a post, in the canal is discrete decision of the dentist and his experience.
