Art Using Everything
No comments:
American Artist Jason Mecier has had an interest in arts since a young age, using all sorts of materials to construct his paintings / sculptures. He came up with the idea of asking celebrities for their unwanted items, in exchange for a painting. It soon caught on and as you can see below, he was very successful. We have put together a group of celebrities from the past and the present with a video where, Mecier tells us more about his story and his work. He works with all sorts of materials for his art, this is how he classifies them: Beans, Candy, Food, Junk, Yarn and Miscellaneous. Mecier says that his artwork can take from 50 hours for the simpler ones to 2 months of solid work for the more complex.

Dedication, patients, long hours and an eye for details are what make these drawings so fascinating to look at. We have included 2 Videos showing Okafor at various stages of work, so that you might be able to pick up some tips, for both drawing and shading. We started with well known personalities, then moved on to everyday people and finished with his amazing details. Enjoy...

Illustrator and Artist Thomas Cian, creates these beautiful portrait drawings, of different people with different expressions. Since infancy we are supposed to be predisposed to pay special attention to the expressions on the faces. By the time we become adults this process is so quick and spontaneous in the brain, that it goes on all the time, without us noticing. Cian's drawings allow us to freeze frame and really pay attention to the variety of expressions that live on people's faces.

French freelance Designer and Illustrator Florian Nicolle aka neo, has a very distinctive style that comes across in his beautiful paintings. Even though the paintings as a whole, has not got a lot of details, especially on the periphery, he is formidable in capturing the expression of the people that populate his work, in particular the eyes. Towards the end of the post we have included some famous faces that you might recognise.

JPH is a very interesting Artist, that works with a variety of mixed media. For today's post we have chosen his Acrylic Art. His paintings really look impressive, but it is not until you see how he creates them, that you appreciate his technique, a video below shows you, just that. The paint is layered and the image almost appears to emerge from the canvas, like a head emerging from a lake. The beauty is that there are some paintings, that have emerged more than others, they are therefore more defined, whilst the others, you have to work harder, as a viewer, to distinguish the the elements that form the features of the face.

Hyper-Realistic Art

British Ileana Hunter defines herself as a Graphite Artist. We have featured her before, in a post called (Minimalist Hyper-Realistic Portraits). Hunter has a very distinctive drawing style, minimalist in its execution. Even though part of the drawing almost looks incomplete, the details that she puts in, are sufficient to recognise who the picture is of. In the image above, called "The Two Audreys", Hunter divides the image in two, on the left the reference image and on the right, the image she has drawn. The process highlights how just a few features of our faces are enough to recognise a person.
