He attended Klein schools and loved sports, playing football and basketball, and he also loved to play baseball.
David attended college, his last year being his junior year at Texas A & M. He then joined the Houston Fire Department where he worked for the next 34 years. He told me many times how much he loved being a firefighter.
He retired in 2002 at the rank of District Chief.
David and I (his wife, Janie) met the first day of the first grade. Many years later, we attended a class reunion and have been together ever since. In September we celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary.
We dearly loved to travel and have visited some magnificent places over the years. We both especially loved cruising and have been on many. He had even booked one for Alaska in August with some of our closest friends.
He very much enjoyed getting together with our kids and grandkids. Christmas was special to both of us.
He kept up with college and pro teams and was still an avid golfer. He was very much the sports fanatic.
David was such an incredibly wonderful person and so much fun to be with.
David is survived by his wife, Janie Bonds; daughter Jennifer Warren and husband Marc; son Donnie Bonds; step-daughter Regina Martin and husband Steven; step-daughter Tracy Schmidt and husband Jay; and grandchildren Joshua, Samantha, Caleb, Hannah, Craig, and Kyle. He was the brother of Donnie, Leonard, and Juanita.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in the memory of David Bonds to The National Fallen Firefighter Foundation P.O. Drawer 498 Emmitsburg, MD 21727 www.firehero.org
All men are created equal, then a few become firemen.
