Ernest Davis, the son of Loston Davis and Ola Davis was born May 29, 1923 in Steward Mill, Texas. He accepted Christ in his life and began his walk with Christ at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the late Rev. Alvin White, Sr. and, was a faithful member, deacon and trustee until he moved his membership to New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in 1971, under the late Rev. H.H. Banks, Sr. There he continued dedicating his life to Christ and served faithfully as a deacon and trustee under Rev. Gerald Britt, Jr. and continued to be faithful during the leadership of Rev. Bruce Fortner, until his health failed.
Ernest was married to the love of his life Leatrice Adkins Davis for Sixty-five years and was a loving father to his only daughter Kathlyn. He was a God fearing man of honor and integrity who loved his grand-children and great-grandchildren and, he was a powerful prayer warrior an ardent reader and student of the Bible.
Ernest attended school in Freestone Co. and was a graduate of Dogan High School in Fairfield, Texas. His professional career began in downtown Dallas, Texas with Schoellkopf Sporting Goods as a bookkeeper for the Ammunitions Dept. and where, he retire after 39 years. He was employed and diligently worked for Sears & Roebucks Co. as a custodial supervisor where he retired after 28 years. Still after retiring from two previous jobs, the desire to keep busy and keep moving was in his blood so, he went back into the work force where he began his new venture as a “Gate Keeper” with the Dallas Independent School District at David W. Carter High School where he was an inspiration to both teachers and students whom he would meet and greet daily and where he retired for the 3rd time after 12 years.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Loston and Ola Davis; wife, Leatrice Adkins Davis; brothers, Lemeul Davis, Burt Davis, L.D. Davis; sister, Ardecia Davis Abram and great-grandson; Kalon Nicholas Glenn Harper.
He leaves to lament his passing and celebrate his home-going; daughter Kathlyn Britt (Lyndon) grand-daughters; Anasa Ross (David) Karen Collins (Andrick Collins, Sr) grandsons, Brandon Ross Howard, Lyndon Britt, II (Felecia) great-grandsons; Ayden Nicolas Ross, Leamon Harper, Andrick Collins, Jr., great-granddaughter, Alayah Collins, Sister-in-law; Paralee Taylor, God Children; Spencer Jones (LaToryla), Arlington Jones (Hope), Karla Nivens (Roosevelt) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
