2024 Skoda Kamiq adds cheaper entry model, on sale now

The 2024 Skoda Kamiq has gained a more affordable Run-Out Edition priced from $32,990 drive-away – $5000 less than the previous cheapest model.

However it is $3000 more expensive than the cheapest model three years ago – which was better equipped, though with a shorter warranty – due to a series of price rises for the rest of the line-up since the end of 2020.

As its name suggests, the Kamiq Run-Out Edition will be available until the updated Skoda Kamiq range arrives in April or May next year, pending any delays.

Compared to the 85TSI Style model above it, the Run-Out Edition misses out on 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control with lane centring, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (instead wired-only), wireless phone charging, silver roof rails (instead finished in black), rear privacy glass, dual-zone climate control, and an alarm system.

When the 85TSI Style returned to the model line-up last year – after it was deleted in 2021 – it cost $7000 more than it did previously, at $37,990 drive-away. Its price has not increased since then.

Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail-lights, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, eight-speaker sound system, keyless entry and start, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, fabric seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

A full suite of advanced safety technology is standard, including autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, a rear-view camera and seven airbags.

Skoda Australia highlights the $1200 difference between the RRP ($31,790 plus on-road costs) and national drive-away price, which is less than the $3000 to $5000 difference quoted by other brands with nationwide or state-by-state drive-away prices.

The Kamiq Run-Out Edition is similarly or better equipped than, and equivalently priced or cheaper than base-model versions of competitors, including the Kia Seltos S ($31,690 drive-away), Hyundai Kona 2.0-litre ($35,000 plus on-road costs), slightly-smaller VW T-Cross Life ($30,990 plus on-roads), Toyota Corolla Cross GX ($33,980 plus on-roads) and MG ZST Essence ($33,990 drive-away).

It is powered by the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as the 85TSI Style, developing 85kW and 200Nm, matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

There are only two options: metallic paint for $550, and a seven-year/105,000km service pack for $2650.

The 2024 Skoda Kamiq Run-Out Edition is available to order now, until the second quarter of 2024 (April to June).
