Where to stay in Doha

West Bay is Doha’s modern heart, characterized by its gleaming skyscrapers and luxurious accommodations. This area offers a cosmopolitan vibe with stunning views of Doha Bay. It’s ideal for leisure and business travelers thanks to its high-end amenities, vibrant nightlife and easy access to business centers and cultural attractions. The Pearl offers palatial resorts and upscale residences on an incredible man-made island that pays tribute to the city’s pearling past. This island’s Qanat Quartier evokes European elegance with Venetian-style canals, high-end boutiques, gourmet dining and marina views. Souq Waqif immerses visitors in Doha’s rich cultural tapestry. This lively destination is known for its traditional architecture, bustling markets and vibrant street life. Boutique accommodations blend old-world charm with modern comfort, offering an authentic taste of Qatari life.

Top attractions in Doha

For sweeping views across Doha Bay, rich cultural insights and fascinating history lessons, head to the Corniche. Walking or cycling this 4.3-mile promenade is one of the top things to do in Doha. At the southern end is the National Museum of Qatar, whose sand-colored building takes its design cues from desert rose crystal. Interactive exhibits tell the story of Qatar, including its pearl-trading past and recent cultural renaissance. A little further north is the Museum of Islamic Art, whose collection spans 1,400 years and contains artifacts from the Islamic world. Stop to admire the Pearl Monument, a homage to the city’s historical pearl trade, and watch dhows (traditional sailboats) gliding in and out of Doha’s bustling port.

When to visit Doha

The best time to visit Doha is between November and April, when temperatures range from 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C). This period bypasses the summer heat and will allow you to comfortably explore outdoor attractions, enjoy beaches and participate in cultural events.

Getting around Doha

Getting around Doha is easy with the sleek and affordable Doha Metro connecting major areas, including the airport and West Bay. Public buses and Metrolink services also provide extensive coverage, while Karwa taxis and ride-hailing apps ensure convenient travel. For flexibility, rent a car, or explore on foot or by bike.

Things to do in Doha

  • Shopping in Doha starts at Souq Waqif. Built on a former Bedouin trading site, this sprawling market offers everything from antiques and spices to falcons and camels for those who seek it. After dark, the lantern-lit passageways fill with the scent of sizzling meat, dumplings and shisha pipes. For luxury-level retail therapy, visit Doha’s famous shopping centers, the Mall of Qatar, Villagio Mall and Place Vendôme.
  • Katara Beach is Doha’s premier public beach. It offers plenty of amenities like water sports rentals, a playground for the kids, plus cafes and restaurants. Hotel beaches like those at the Four Seasons and the InterContinental are the best for pure luxury. Non-hotel guests can often access hotel beaches with a day pass.
  • Doha’s food scene is peppered with Michelin stars and embraces everything from traditional Persian to French-Qatari fusion, as well as all your international favorites. On a budget? Explore the array of delicious hole-in-the-wall eateries, sample Karak and snacks (a much-loved tradition in Qatar) and visit Doha’s plethora of family-friendly eateries that offer cuisines to your liking. The city’s famous and delectable brunch offerings are also a must for any visitor, so book early and dress to the nines for an all-out feast.
  • Doha’s nightlife lights up in popular venues like Black Orchid and Sky View. Many bars and clubs are located in or near some of Doha’s biggest hotels.
  • In addition to the National Museum of Qatar and the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha offers several more top-notch museums. The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum celebrates local and global sporting history. Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art showcases 9,000 diverse artworks. And for stargazers, the museum inside Al Thuraya Planetarium is a must-visit.
  • Adventure awaits travelers of all ages at Doha’s theme parks. Dive into Angry Birds World for action-packed rides and interactive games. At Doha Quest, enjoy high-tech entertainment and thrilling roller coasters. Gondolania in Villaggio Mall whisks you to Venice with gondola rides, an ice rink and lively funfair games. For another type of adventure, take to the exhilarating waterslides and rides at Meryal Waterpark before changing pace at its relaxing, sandy-shored beachfront.
