Kodak Black is an American rapper. He’s known for mixtapes like Project Baby and Lil B.I.G. Pac. His debut studio album, Painting Pictures, was released in March 2017. Black was born Dieuson Octave on June 11, 1997 in Pompano Beach, Florida. His parents were originally from Haiti. He was raised by his mom in a housing project in Pompano Beach. Black is reportedly working on his HS diploma at Blanche Ely High School. His music influences include rappers Boosie Badazz and Chief Keef.

CAREER
Black started out as a member of the rap group ‘Brutal Yungenz’ in the late 2000s. He worked briefly with ‘The Kolyons’ before launching his solo career. Black’s debut mixtape, Project Baby, was released in December 2013 by Dollaz N Dealz. His second mixtape, Heart of the Projects, was released in December 2014. It was led by the single “No Flockin” which peaked at #40 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The single “Skrt” also gained attention after it was highlighted by fellow rapper Drake.

Black signed a deal with Atlantic Records in 2015 and his third mixtape, Institution, was released shortly after. It was led by the single “Like Dat”. His fourth mixtape, Lil B.I.G. Pac (2016), charted at #191 on the Billboard 200 and #49 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Black was featured on French Montana 2016 single “LockJaw” from the mixtape MC4. The song was certified Gold by the RIAA.

Kodak Black’s debut studio album, Painting Pictures, was released on March 31, 2017 by Atlantic Records. It features guest appearances from artists like Young Thug, Future and Young Jeezy. The single “Tunnel Vision” peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album was accompanied by a 25-minute documentary titled ‘Project Baby’. Kodak’s sophomore album, Dying to Live, premiered in December 2018. It produced 4 singles “If I’m Lyin, I’m Flyin”, “Take One”, “Calling My Spirit” and “Zeze” with Travis Scott and Offset.

He pleaded not contests to all charges in August 2016 under a plea agreement.

Black was sentenced to 3 months in jail in September 2016 for drug charges. Upon his release he was transferred to South Carolina where he faced charges of sexual assault. He was released on December 1, 2016 on a $100,000 bond. Black was booked in February 2017 for violating his parole. He was arrested in January 2018 on charges ranging from probation violations to weapon possession. He was released in August 2018 after serving 7 months.
