Affinity Designer is a fantastic design and illustration application which includes three modes: vector, pixels, and persona. It's very intuitive with an excellent grid and guides tool. It loads fast in comparison to other illustration premium tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It's difficult for me to say that there is something that I dislike so far about Affinity Designer. I'm a user of Adobe Illustrator; however, since 2020, Affinity Designer has turned into my favorite illustration tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Being a long time user of Adobe Illustrator, using Affinity Designer is a breeze! It has all the same basic vector tools. The best thing I enjoy now is there are NO MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEES! I had to pay monthly fees previously but found that I was only using 2-3 software apps , and though it was very convenient to have access to all the apps, I had no time to use them. This went on for more than 5 years. I also like the fact that I can still import PSDs, PDFs just like the old program without much loss. Affinity also has Affinity Photo which allows me to have the same workflow as previously. I am not an advanced user of Illustrator or Photoshop, but I use these softwares everyday. It may not have the features like recolor artwork, the power of Adobe Illustrator Shape Builder options. Generally, the convenience and creativity features after CS2020 & CS2021. I would say about 70% of the tools are similar, 30% would need me to familiarise with the locations of the˙´tools and windows. Although ther ere not much free plugins or scripts to download, it may not be too bad as there are also not much legacy tools that does not work in the updated software (CS2021). There are some features that are on their roadmap which I hope will be available very soon. Currently I am using a MacBook Pro 2016, which I am experiencing some performance lag. Since Adobe has shifted to a subscription only model which is extremely expensive, it's nice to have an alternative software that offers a one time payment. For a small business user like myself, to only have to pay $25 for a lifetime license is wonderful! I'm able to produce high quality graphics without investing a fortune in programs I don't use quite often enough to pay for themselves. Of course, there are some limitations to the software. It lacks some of the "smart" features like automatic tracing, etc. You most certainly have to work around a few missing tools. If you're an Adobe power user, this program might not be for you. But that's kind of the point. For us, it does exactly what we need it to. I create a lot of documents in Affinity Publisher and use Designer to either modify svgs and/or create digital stickers for my planners and notebooks that I sell. Designer makes it very easy to do this and I love how I can work in Publisher and then use the Designer Persona (at least that is what I believe it is called) at the top of the toolbar to make modifications with automatic updates to my original document.

Easy, peasy. I also love using it to draw elements, too. It is taking me a bit to learn as I am used to Adobe products.

Additionally, I will say that their customer support is top notch. They helped me out by explaining their multitude of export options in Publisher.

Maybe it is just me yet I have noticed that since the latest update, it has been crashing a lot. I am bit hesitant to update again due to this so that is what stands out to me right now. I know that I have installed updates before and not had any issues.

There aren't many tutorials for newbies like me. I'm not professionally into graphics designing but from time to time I do need some design work and I would prefer Affinity (due to its pricing) over other options like Canva or photoshop.
