Second Star to the Right - Finished!

I finished this quilt up last week, and took it to my sister's baby shower, hoping to get a cute picture of it in her nursery.

But apparently she hasn't set up her nursery yet {two months to go, no rush!}

So I bribed my parents' cat to sit on it instead.

It's a simple quarter log cabin, with some Pearl Bracelets and Vintage Modern and I don't remember the yellow or green print. Blue minky back, Pearl Bracelet binding.

I quilted in my sister's and her husband's initials. She refused to tell me even the initial for the baby! Meanie.

The rest of the quilting is a boxy stipple from Free Motion Quilting with Angela Walters. LOVE IT. So easy!

And it's ready and waiting for my nephew's birth!

{Also, I have two giveaways running - one for a Something New PDF and one for a four-pack of Porch Swing Maxi Quilts AND a layer cake!}

It's time for a BIG announcement! Like, literally.

That's right, the month of Porch Swing Quilt patterns is finishing up with MAXI quilt patterns. Screw you, minis. Big is the new little.

Maxi Taffy, with my super impressive pressing instructions!

Maxi Make It Do, with those corner churn dashes!

Maxi Something New, that uses a layer cake for a great coordinated finish!

And Maxi Five Spot, for some excellent fussy cutting potential!

Each one is only $6.50 over at Jennie's pattern shop.

But wait - there's more!

You can also buy a set of all four Maxis for $20 - but only through this Sunday! It's like Black Friday and Small Business Saturday all rolled into one and extended.

But wait - there's more!

I'm giving away a set of all four patterns here! Just leave a comment telling me your favorite. {It's okay if it's not Taffy. I guess.}

AND - I'm giving away a layer cake so you have a head start on making one! From Red Chair Quilting on Etsy - just leave a comment with your favorite layer cake in her shop. {Yes, two comments, two chances to win!}

But wait - there's more! Head on over to Jennie's blog and enter her giveaway as well!

{And also - don't forget - there's a giveaway for Something New still running on this post! It'll go through Sunday because I'm lazy like that.}

Something New - a Porch Swings Quilts Pattern

So Jennie decided to call the last one Something New. Perhaps we did these in the wrong order...

Jennie made hers in the fabulous Miss Kate - it's a fat eighth pattern and therefore, super scrappy friendly.

In fact, it's so scrap friendly, that you can make an AWESOME red, white and blue controlled-scrappy version. Mine is barely started - just checking measurements and seam pressing - because I want to spread out the scrappiness. {No, I don't want all those dots in the same block!}

I've been buying RW&B fat quarters/scraps for a while now with the plan to make some Quilts of Valor, and this one fits the bill perfectly! {Yes, that was my first question for pattern testing - can I use scraps instead? Luckily Jennie isn't all "you must use the latest designer fabric!"}

I'm currently in the throes of cutting t-shirt quilts and binding minis and deadlines, but I really can't wait to get back to this one. In fact, I have a stack of the pieces cut to be leaders/enders while I get these Christmas orders together.

{I also have a QOV made by someone else to bind. Man, these local chapters don't really rest when they find a volunteer!}

Anyway, same deal as before - Something New is on sale at Craftsy for $5 this week only!

But wait! You can win it here! Just leave a comment about your favorite organization to donate quilts, if you know of one.

But wait! There's more! You're going to want to head on over to Jennie's, because she has some way better shots of the quilt, plus a solid version which is almost cool as my controlled-scrappy. AND she's giving away fabric, too!

{Oh, and last week's winner was Dawn. Thanks for the Vegas suggestions! We saw Love, did a ton of eating, and - oh yeah, ran some races.}

And you're going to want to stay tuned for Wednesday - Jennie has a BIG announcement!

Five Spot - a Porch Swing Quilts Pattern!

Another Friday, another Porch Swing Quilts feature! But first - last week's winner of Taffy is Michelle! You lucky lady, you. {What? I don't have favorites. I swear!}

This week is all about Five Spot. And y'all - as much as I love Taffy - this is a great fast one. These blocks are BIG and they go together fast. Our best man is finally having a baby of his own, so I dove into my green, blue, and novelty scrap bins to whip up a few blocks. Four and a border and it's a baby quilt! ...when I'm not in the Christmas/t-shirt quilt season.

I think my favorite part about quilts in general, and therefore Jennie's patterns, is the secondary pattern. I love it when blocks and sashings play together to make something just a little more. Like that star hidden in the background fabric up there. LOVE.

And I suppose a finished Five Spot is nice to see, too. Jennie rocked it in Flower Sugar by Lecien.

Same as last week - Five Spot is on sale this week for $5! <---I see what you did there.

But you can win it here! Just use the widget below and leave a comment telling me...um...I got nothing. I'm leaving for Vegas in about an hour and my brain is already on vacation. Ooh! Tell me a fun thing to do in Vegas! Like...run a half marathon! And a 5K! {Yes, I have a very wide definition of "fun."}
