BOMs Away - QOVF February

Y’all, my to-bind pile is getting a little out of control. And that’s really not normal for me - I used to quilt and bind immediately. But that was when I was only doing 2ish quilts a week a the rental shop. Then when I bought my longarm, I fell into the trap of binding for clients, so everything DID have to be quilted and bound immediately. So now that there’s no urgency, there’s no…urgency.

See? Seriously. Four quilts that just need binding. So naturally, this weekend, the weekend that I dedicate to working on Quilts of Valor stuff, I….uh…pieced a top and quilted another one. I mean, at least it’s GOOD procrastination, right??

So the top - it’s some of the Sawtooth Stars from my Pieceful Swapettes Bee from, um, 2018… I asked for sawtooth stars in 4”, 8” or 12” sizes. I’ve gone through a few different layout plans over the years, so I decided to ignore all that and just start sewing these stars together. Two 12” blocks = 24”. Three 8” blocks = 24”. Four 4” blocks make an 8” block. So it was pretty easy to get it to 56x72”. I’ll add a border to bring the size up a bit more, because I’m definitely not making more blocks. In fact, I tossed the four leftover blocks into my new QOV Orphan Block box. They can wait there for a while.

And then I quilted this top from the Alabama State Coordinator. Slowly chipping away at the pile! And I had a friend contact me about longarming! We were both stationed in Fairchild together 3+ years ago, then she moved elsewhere and I moved to Oklahoma and then we both moved to Alabama! She’s two hours away, so we decided to meet halfway soon-ish. I just need to go through my stacks of backing and see how many tops and backs I can take her. Plus it’ll be nice to see her again!

And so… Did anyone else work on (or start) a BOM? Or a project broken into more manageable monthly pieces? Or a few blocks for someone else’s charity project? Link up here or at What a Hoot!
