Lil Kalish

Lil Kalish is a reporter covering LGBTQ+ rights at HuffPost. They cover how state and federal policies impact the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV — and how laws regulating gender, sex, bodily autonomy, and privacy impact everyone. Their reporting ranges from explainers on health care law, to investigations into right-wing figures shaping the conservative anti-trans movement, to features on LGBTQ+ people navigating the current political landscape. Before joining HuffPost in 2023, Lil covered LGBTQ+ rights at BuzzFeed News, wrote about inequality at CalMatters, and reported on tech and California politics at Mother Jones. Lil first cut their teeth as a reporter covering arts, culture, and political censorship at The Myanmar Times, formerly Myanmar’s only English-language daily newspaper. Lil’s reporting has taken them from the deserts of Southern California to the streets of Yangon and appears in The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, LAist, ARTNews and elsewhere. They have given talks at Stanford, Bowdoin and USC, and have appeared on radio segments for Vox’s “Record” and NPR’s “It’s Been a Minute.” Lil believes in reporting “at the speed of trust,” to borrow a phrase from adrienne maree brown.
