Zusammenfassung
Reviewers say 'Chemical Hearts' delves into teenage love, loss, and mental health, often likened to John Green's style. Lili Reinhart's performance and the lead chemistry receive praise. However, the film faces criticism for its slow pace, clichés, and pretentiousness. Some argue it romanticizes mental health issues rather than addressing them realistically. Deviations from the book's plot and character development disappoint fans. The ending elicits mixed reactions, contributing to the film's divisive reception.

I kept imagining that if i were my teen self, I'd probably think this was "deep." But now i think it's pretentious!
I think it's high time young adult novels are written by younger adults, because these novels make teens look like these adults , and so deep and serious, when in reality there are moments of lightness as well.
The chemistry between the leads are good. Only thing that makes it watchable , apart from the cinematography.
This was okay. This is the same brand of pretentious as John Green. Sorry not sorry, but teens don't sound like a novelist.
Also, the lead guy was kinda a pushover. I get the trope of nerdy, artistic shy guy, whatever. But that doesn't make all of them the same, he could have come across as less pathetic and stronger boundaries ! Sad that teens are being pandered this crap as romance and coming-of-age. Your high school love doesn't have to a tumultuous tortured romance. 🙄🙄🙄 This is second only to those teen cancer movies, we need better genre!

A teen drama movie based on a book.
How can we get over that love that hurt us? In this movie you won't know.
It is about a boy who meets a girl and falls in love with her, while discovering his past.
Parsimonious.
Quality.
She talks about how sometimes we cannot forget the damage we have done or the damage they did to us, although she succeeds in doing it, she does not show how to overcome it, she becomes more and more stuck in her central idea.
It is not your typical teenage story.
At times it may seem silly and toxic, the message it tries is good but the situations and how to get there are not.
Avoidable.
It's like a sleeping pill in the middle of the movie, it has a good opening and a little closing, but it falls off in the middle.
She tries to look smart and is only ostentatious because she can't.
The book may try something else but the film does not and stays in the attempt.

It jumps ahead from the typical teenager romance and explores the reality of young love and heartbreak. I could relate so much on how they portrayed the confusion about being in love and about being someone that you aren't ready to be yet. If you are someone that easily cries watching movies, you should totally bring a tissue with you. Lili Reinhart's acting is flawless and the way she embraced the role of grace town is totally out of this world.
This is a really good movie, better than I expected. I like Lili Reinhart, having watched her as Betty in "Riverdale", she also was a producer for this new-release movie on Amazon streaming. Set and filmed in New Jersey, she is high school senior Grace Town, new to this school, with a limp and a cane.
Austin Abrams is Henry Page, also a senior and newly appointed school newspaper editor. Grace and Henry become friends and then more, but Grace always seems distant, something is bothering her, she doesn't speak about it easily. It is wrapped up in the bad wreck about a year earlier that killed her friend and cut her track career short.
The title is a reference to several things, one a comment made early while looking at the night sky, that we are just molecules, chemicals, made from exploded star remnants. Another is what Henry's doctor sister says about chemical changes in the minds of teenagers, as they start to leave behind childhood and cope with what it means to be a young adult. Teenagers develop Chemical Hearts.
The movie doesn't have a wrapped up, happily ever after ending but it does have Henry and Grace each headed in perhaps better directions, preparing for young adulthood. My wife and I watched it at home on Amazon streaming.

6/10 - promising young adult novel adaptation explores lots of worthy themes but never manages to truly lift off the ground
