The best Sinhala movie I've ever watched. Takes us back to our golden history and rich culture and the amount of sacrifices made by our ancestors to protect this motherland.
Hope this film breaks all records of the history of the Srilankan film arena. Camera angles and direction seems to be at its optimum. Though this is the first effort of the young music director, he has done his best and has achieved the best.
Aloko Udapadi is Literally an awesome piece of work which nicely depicts the Epic Effort of a dedicated human community to preserve for the whole of mankind and for all time, a unique cultural and spiritual heritage - overcoming formidable obstacles.

Let's talk about good of that film.
The portrayal of the ancient Sri Lankan society and the reign is impeccable and realistic. It is pretty obvious that the director knows what he is doing. He has done his research on it. The attention to the details is appreciable. Surely this film set the bar up for the Sri Lankan movies and for the trending historic movies as well. One of the best things in this film is the minimum use of CGI. For the last years, most of the sinhala films ruined the cinema quality due to crappy CGI (Sri Lankan film industry is not huge enough to afford high end CGI techs). In this film they have used appropriate amount of Graphics in a good way. Kudos for that. Last but not list, the screen writer is a top notch as he was able to deliver the message that in a war there is a tragedy under that victory and ithas to be carried out with a lot of patience. This movie has to be applaud with a huge success at box office.
The movie has good camera-work and decent music. It gives the chills to any Sri Lankan who is watching it.As I mentioned before the technology used is next level for Sri Lankan cinema. The acting is decent. Uddika Premaratne does a good job with the screen time he is given and the supporting cast is also good. The action could have been better in terms of choreography but is still good. The plus points stop there.
The story is very bad. There is no real plot development or depth. The movie just takes some scenes from the history books and join them together. There is no flow from one scene to another and the viewer isn't really made aware of how the story leads to each scene. The power struggle between the antagonists are highlighted in the movie but isn't shown in depth and isn't believable. The characters are not developed well. They just do things the plot wants to do without any backstory or development. The main character should and could have been shown in depth. The movie is definitely inspired from Game of Thrones. It tries to be a historical character drama of power struggle and fails in that aspect. It tries not glorifying the main character and fails in adding depth to the characters. It tries all the right things and fails in some of the most important areas.
In summary Aloko Udapadi is definitely a good movie and marks the next level in Sri Lankan cinema. But the movie lacks a good story and character depth among other things. Next movies should improve on what Aloko Udapadi has done right and learn from it's mistakes.
Finally I should say that this movie doesn't deserve a 9.9. For all the Sri Lankans out there trying to glorify this as the perfect movie, I ask you not to be satisfied with this. Give a score this movie deserves so that the makers will improve on it in the next projects. This shouldn't be the peak of Sri Lankan cinema.
During recent times we witnessed a lot of Sinhala movies with a Historical story line. But None of the movies were able to create such "Realness" and "Liveness" in their visuals. With some astonishing camera work and some stunning choice of locations, this movie has produced some excellent cinematic which were never evident in movies which came before.
To a generation that have seen, English movies like "Lord of the Rings", Aloko Udapadi will be promising that Sinahala Cinema will soon match their expectations of a Historical movie.
However the mediocre Script leads the movie to a series of unconnected scenes (despite a spot on opening part) with no effort to exaggerate the key milestone of the movie which could have made the viewer kept more emotionally attached to the movie. Yet it will not be enough to prevent one from saying that Aloko Udapadi is the best thing happened to the Sinhala Cinema in recent times.
