Behind the Chameleon (2016)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This twenty-five minute featurette takes another look at the various special effects that were used in John Carpenter's THE THING. Peter Kuran and Susan Turner discuss the opening credits including the spaceship seen flying through space as well as the title burning onto the screen. From here we get comments from Brian Wade, Rob Burman and Randall William Cook who discuss some of the special effects that they worked on in the film. THE THING was well represented by Universal on their LD, DVD and originally Blu-ray but Shout Factory! took it a step further with their releases. There were all sorts of new featurettes with this here being one of them and this here really gives you a great look at the title sequence as well as some more behind-the-scenes stories dealing with the special effects. I really thought the most interesting aspect was the opening credits and especially how the title was burned onto the screen.
