The show is very predictable and a little corny, but we thoroughly enjoy watching it with our nine-year-old daughter. There aren't many shows on television that African-American families can enjoy together. Black-ish used to be one of them, but the content became a little too mature. This show makes us laughs and has several teachable moments.
I recommend it for families looking for something they can enjoy together. We hope they continue with several seasons.

If you are expecting This is Us or The Ozarks you will obviously be disappointed. This show is lightweight with over the top exaggerated acting which I suspect is on purpose. It reminds me of a Nickelodeon or Disney Channel kids show.
If you want complex dialogue, great intense acting and controversy this show isn't for you.
HOWEVER-
It is sweet. It is clean. It is safe. The whole family can watch it. They model/preach universally taught values such as honesty, hard work, love etc...
It has a couple actresses that are beloved. I think society has gotten away from the classic lightweight family sitcom. Shows like Family Matters, Silver Spoons, Punky Brewster etc are just not abundant anymore. This seems to be in a similar vein but is a little too over the top to be taken seriously. But many shows have rocky starts the first season, I suggest giving it a chance and seeing where they go with it.
If nothing else it will be something to laugh about with your friends and family later this week.
I give it a solid 7 out of 10 because despite all I just said, by episode 7 I found myself starting to be invested in the characters and it is a great show to have on in the evening while I'm making dinner and our kids are in the living room.

Besides the some what comical yet immensely corny jokes, this show is in fact informative. Bring attention to a beautiful black family. Informing us about black figures we tend to shut the door to. As well as addressing obstacles in the black community. The message behind the show out shines any of its flaws.
When I first watched Blackish I felt the same as I did watching Family Reunion. It was ok. I really hated the title "Blackish". But after many episodes the acting got better and it's one of my favorites now. I think the same will happen with this series. If you keeps watching you'll see the actors become better as the get use to working with each other. In comedies timing is everything and you can see the improvement from the 1st episode and episode 5 & 6. I'm enjoying the series hope they get to do a second season. One question? Who are the people at the end of each episode? The dedications.
This one is just not for me, it belongs in the 90's. I prefer to not have my shows to push religion constantly. It takes place in a cliche make believe universe where kids never do anything bad besides mess up bible verses.
