The Scarlet Letter

This picture is the most notable film of the week. The story by Hawthorne is so well known to a majority of those who will see this picture that its recapitulation seems unnecessary. The Imp players have reproduced the salient features of the tale with wonderful fidelity to facts and have made of them such fascinating bits of characterization that those who see cannot but admire. Hester Prynne's disgrace and her years of shame appeal very strongly to the emotions. Her loyalty to Dimmesdale who was responsible for her downfall, her public degradation during long years, her rehabilitation at last, only to have her lover fall dead in her arms, make a picture which it would be difficult to praise too highly. The characters are reproduced as they might reasonably be expected to be. There is a quiet beauty and dignity about Hester, even in her disgrace, which appeals with more than ordinary strength. The picture has seized upon and has emphasized the salient points in the story . It is good and will be popular.
