When Lt. Sperling visits the oculist's office, the doctor is wearing a head mirror. This is never used by eye doctors, only by ear-nose-throat specialists. This is an extremely common mistake in movies, when directors et al want to indicate that someone is a doctor.

Better than I thought!

I watched this film just because the actor Stig Järrel said (he's not alive anymore, r. i. p) this was one of three films he actually was satisfied with (the others were Torment, Hets, and Fram för lilla Märta). I can understand why after having seen it! For such an old film this is amazingly good! It has a couple of stories and my heart goes out to the poor colonel who lost his love and then more... (no spoiler...). Of course Järrels character breaks my heart too. Yes, it's a sad film in many ways, but it's really good. In black-and white, so bear with it.
