You Can't Push the River

A film made obviously with some personal conviction to it.

Three distinct characters play out their roles to a tapestry of love, need and insecurity in this quirky little film from Leslie Oliver.

Tony is new to the school. Settling in has not been easy for him and he is trying to deal (not too successfully) with his own issues of peer pressure and social dislocation. His teacher is Joe Glass, an Irishman who has travelled extensively, never quite sure of what he was looking for. All he knows is that he has yet to find it. Joe has this underlying feeling of "not belonging" and he needs to feel part of something...anything! Joe has just now found a lover, Kohar, a girl of Armenian parentage although she was brought up in Australia. She too is trying to balance her birthright against a new culture in her adopted homeland.

This life-affirming little flick works rather well and I can recommend it to the more sensitive and aware individuals who may be reading this. Superb title!
