Unter den Lichtern von Paris

A story that begins well: Gaston Fromageot, the son of the notary of the village is mad about Brigitte, the daughter of the baroness.The notary and the priest of the village decided to vistit the baroness becaus ethey need help for the restoration of the bell tower of the church.Gaston has come with them because he wants to see Brigitte.The baroness sendsGaston to look for her glasses and Gaston meets Brigitte who discourages Gaston saying him that she has a lover in Paris, a "chanteur de charme" who sings in the Parisian cabarets.Gaston manages to convince the baroness to len him moey for the contracts of the singers and musicians who will take part in the charity gala.Once in Paris Gaston begins to visit cabarets, drinks a little to much, has a fight with Francisco, a cabaret singer, looses his wallet .The baroness receives the notices that Gaston has spent all her money and decides to go to Paris to look for Gaston.Till here the story is like a normal omedy.But later the director of the film dedicates too many time to the spectacles in the cabarets and the film is less interesting. In the cast appears Louis de Funès at the beginning of his career, he plays the little role of a hotel director.

That's what the title means . At the time,the "Office Catholique Du Cinema" forbade the movie to their flock ,because of its (rather crude,admittedly) sexual innuendos ,and of its topless dancers.Much ado about nothing.

For this is a nothing movie,based on a screenplay written by morons : to get money to repair the Church steeple ,a stupid lump,in love with a baroness' daughter,has to go to Paris to find "artists " who would perform for a charity gala .

This is only a pretext to show the Parisian life time to an absolutely half-witted audience.

One can save ,at a pinch,Jean Carmet's portrayal of a stammering priest ,and two short appearances by Louis De Funès as a receptionist.

What's the point of restoring such a dud?
