As a longtime Muppet fan, Plaza Sésamo is a true gem in the global Sesame Street family. I love discovering how different countries adapt this timeless show, and Plaza Sésamo does a fantastic job of blending educational content with vibrant Latin American culture.
My favorite character from this version is Abelardo, the big green parrot who serves as Plaza Sésamo's main character. He's warm, curious, and lovable - very much the heart of the show, just like Big Bird is in the original. I still remember that special episode where Abelardo visits Sesame Street and reunites with his cousin Big Bird. That crossover moment made both versions feel connected in such a special way.
I also enjoy learning about other versions of Big Bird. My personal favorite is Pino from Sesamstraat (the Dutch version), mostly because of his light blue feathers - and since blue is my favorite color and light is my favorite type of blue, Pino really stands out to me!
Plaza Sésamo proves that educational programming can be universal while still feeling local. It's a beautiful part of Muppet history, and it deserves just as much appreciation as the original Sesame Street. Whether you're a native Spanish speaker or just a curious Muppet fan, this show is worth exploring.
