Dying on the Edge

A recovering Alcoholic ex-cop battles his memories of a daughter killed by a speeding car in front of him and his lack of coming to terms with her loss. Dealing with these emotions and the bottle is woven into the substance of this film. Hardly riveting stuff but watchable when there is nothing else to watch, this film tells the story of two young men who seek to hit the big time and the way in which they strive to make it happen for them.A Loan shark and his henchmen and all that entails, money laundering for the Mob, and is the Insurance company on the take too? Not high-drama, but a passable movie, except that a lot of the details of the story are given as hearsay evidence from the dubious pharmacist brother of one of the deceased being investigated. Can the information be trusted? Mob involvement wasn't as heavy as other films of the genre usually portray.

Decided to tape a film from TV which was scheduled for around 1AM and soon found out why it was hidden away in the wee hours of the AM. Always liked John Heard as an actor and he did a great job trying to hold this film together along with actors who just did not measure up as supporting actors. Most of the film showed John Heard drinking beer. throwing a beer bottle against the wall of his apartment and blowing smoke rings. There was constant flash backs of his young daughter running into the street after a ball she was playing with and his wife who was pregnant. I must say this film was not worth watching, it actually put me to sleep, causing me to rewind the tape to find out what finally happened at the end. This is a real SLEEPER of a FILM.
