Olhos de Vampa

In São Paulo, a beautiful woman is found dead, with a peach in her mouth, a bite in her butt and without blood in the body. Dr. Arthur (Antônio Abujamra), the chief of police, assigns detective Leôncio (Washington Gonzales) to investigate the murder together with the fetishist photographer Oscar (Marcos Ricca). When other women are found dead in the same modus-operandi - i.e., peach in the mouth, bite in the ass, and no blood - the police gives the nickname of "Vampa" (Joel Barcellos) to the vampire serial-killer. Without any lead, they decide to follow Diva Botelho (Christiane Ticerri), a sexy and popular night-club dancer on the streets of São Paulo, trying to identify possible suspects.

"Olhos de Vampa" has a great and original storyline, a promising beginning, with the cynical vampire that bites women in the butt - a Brazilian national sexual "preference" - a joke that makes much sense to us. Unfortunately, this weird movie loses pace and becomes repetitive and boring after forty minutes running time. There are some dialogs almost impossible to be understood, showing a low quality of the sound. Anyway, it deserves to be watched to see a vampire with very good taste. My vote is five.

Title (Brazil): "Olhos de Vampa" ("Eyes of Vampa")

This low-budget movie (completed in 1996, but released only in 2004) shows a policeman specialized in psychology and a fetishist photographer chasing "Vampa", a very peculiar vampire that lives in the big city of Sao Paulo (also known as "Sampa"): instead of sucking blood from necks, Vampa prefers to bite beautiful girl's asses (some of the actresses playing the victims were "Playboy" covers in Brazil), leaving always a ripe peach in their mouths.

Very funny, sexy, intelligent (there's a lot of subtext, from analysis concerning sexual preferences to social comments and references to soccer teams, but nothing that will spoil the fun of non-Brazilian viewers) and beautifully done, it's a fantastic movie _ but not recommended for those who doesn't have a sense of humor or the patience to see something audacious and different than the average.
