A bizarre and deeply millennial TV endeavour from the legendary Raymond Briggs. Here, he's solely creating for television, and I dare say something of his storytelling subtlety got lost in a desire to create visually interesting set piece after set piece. It's quite a strange sort of a thing, and the final twist is both awkward and abrupt. I have a very vague memory of it coming out, being trumpeted as a Christmas treat akin to the evergreen melancholic Snowman classic (although I'd have settled for the bawdy glory of Father Christmas) however, of course, it is neither. Nor is it at all festive so it's a bold bit of marketing really.
I remember watching this back on Christmas 2001, and after viewing it again....
😡
Ivor is SUCH an unlikable character, causing mischief and has probably sent John and his family to prison!
Ivor has no redeeming qualities what do ever and learns nothing!
Also, every time Ivor "speaks", we get an annoying sci-fi like noise, which gets irritating after a while.
The animation is good, if you're familar with the films based on Raymond Briggs' stories.
The films ends on such a down note. That was nice for Christmas viewing, was it?
Just stick with The Snowman and Father Christmas.

A fun little movie, not up there with Raymond Brigg's other classics, but it is worth a watch.
An enjoyable 25 minutes, would recommend!

WUSSTEST DU SCHON:
- WissenswertesThe first Raymond Briggs project to be conceived directly for the screen, rather than being adapted from his books.
