Once in a while some of us need a completely inappropriate, derivative, and messy bit of comedy. Watching the Roast of Pamela Anderson feels like being at a messy party where you just can't stop watching the trainwreck.
With a motley crew of has-been and has-never-been weirdos, and Pamela being a perfectly good sport at all the nasty jokes, this is pretty much the meaning of a shameless 21st century roast.

This program had caught my interest weeks before its air date. Something about it appealed to me, although I didn't expect much. I thought it would be a cheap piece of exploitation - typical Comedy Central trash. To some extent, I was right. It's very vulgar, very crude, and very, very raunchy.
But I was surprised at just how funny it was. I was laughing so hard I fell off my sofa and almost cried - it's outrageous stuff. The comedians assembled for the roast are all very talented, and they each deliver their own speech - it's like watching a Greatest Hits compilation of various comedians delivering their best jokes.
The guests at the roast are quite famous faces. David Spade (through video communication), Tommy Lee, Andy Dick, Adam Carolla, Courtney Love, Anna Nicole Smith in the audience, Jimmy Kimmell, and so on and so forth. All very sleazy celebrities for the most part, they add to the program's raunchiness.
I was shocked by just how much they got away with. The jokes are some of the most explicit I've heard uttered on television - they were bleeped out the first time Comedy Central played it, but a lot of the stuff made it through - primarily the names of vital body organs.
My only problem with the show is that it's so sleazy it's almost a bit sick to find yourself watching it. And too much time is spent focusing on Tommy Lee's famous physical attribute - every comedian cracked a joke about his schlong and Andy Dick even simulated oral sex on him. It got lame after a while. A few days after it aired, Tommy Lee said, "I got tired of all the jokes being about me. You know, it's for her, it's like...here she is, focus on her." And I agree with him, it got to be tiring after a while.
Nevertheless for the most part this is a very funny (if very, very crude) "Roast" and Pamela Anderson was a good sport through it all. She endured a lot of verbal humiliation and took it in good spirit.
I personally enjoyed most of it and even got a chance to see Tommy perform his new single from the album "Tommyland the Ride." It's a really good song and it's a solid performance.
At the end of the day you may find yourself shocked by the content in this program, and perhaps you might even feel a bit ashamed to be watching it, but if you can ignore its crudity it really is one of the funniest programs ever aired on television - it attracted 16 Million viewers, one of the highest rated Comedy Central programs in history. Apparently word traveled fast.

I'm not a huge fan of this genre of humor, making fun of people, or in this case trying to make them look ridiculous, is not immediately the kind of humor that you have to be proud of, but since the person they make fun of is always present it changes everything. That person, in this case Pamela Anderson, is fine with the roast. I have to admire people that can take insults without getting up and start a fist fight. I, personally could not stay calm and would probably beat the crap out of every single one of them. Most of the comedians I don't even know, some are funny, others are not that funny, but overal I had good laughs. Most of the time it was a bit repetitive, laughing with Pamela's tits is just easy and a bit childish but it worked, laughing with her sex tape is okay, everybody saw it and honestly it's really not a big deal, I had much better sex than those scenes. But since it's one with Pamela Anderson, that was and still kinda is a sex symbol, it all looks hotter than it really is. Laughing about her vagina or huge batcave is funny but let's be honest most of the men here wouldn't say no if you would ask them if they would like to explore that cave. Pamela Anderson has a sense of humor as she takes all the jokes they made of her like she's used to take stuff without making a fuzz. Courtney Love though, that one I know, is not the most pleasant person to watch, just a vulgar junkie that acts like she's interesting but she's just the weakest link in this show. I guess for this genre of comedy this episode is one of the better ones.
I gave it a 4. It made me laugh and I really like Pamela's work for PETA.
With the exception of Courtney Love, Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson I didn't know much about the other people in this show. Who are they I thought when they started their hilarious and vulgar orations? My excuse is that I'm not an American and I don't follow the current American stand-up comedy scene.
Here's my take, it was funny and very vulgar, not that I mind, I had lots of laughs and enjoyed the roast. But, just like eating food you know isn't good to your body, these kind of shows could deteriorate your mind. The show has no meaning except of upholding the myth of the celebrities by making fun of them in a predetermined way. The celebrities become some kind of one-dimensional characters and that's good for business, I guess. Otherwise they wouldn't have participated.
It seems like that the good old roasting of celebrities back in the days of Dean Martin and Truman Capote had more substance than just talking about Tommy Lee's endowment and Pamela's tits. It was more clever in the old days and I miss that. But hey carry on with your roasting, it's a very American entertainment and thank god there are no beeps. I *beeping* hate that.

The Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson is a laugh-out-loud spectacle filled with biting humor, over-the-top jabs, and plenty of moments that push the boundaries of good taste-all the things you'd expect from a classic Comedy Central roast. Pamela Anderson, as the evening's target, shines as a good sport, taking the jokes in stride and proving she has a great sense of humor about her public persona.
The dais features an impressive lineup of comedians and celebrities, including Jeffrey Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, and Greg Giraldo, who deliver sharp, no-holds-barred insults that land more often than not. The jokes range from clever and creative to downright outrageous, but that's part of the fun. The inclusion of Anderson's close friend Courtney Love adds a chaotic energy that keeps the night unpredictable.
What sets this roast apart is Pamela herself. Her self-awareness and grace under fire elevate the event, making it more than just a barrage of lowbrow humor. Her rebuttal is surprisingly witty and charming, showcasing a side of her that isn't often highlighted in the public eye.
While the roast occasionally crosses the line into mean-spirited territory, it's a thoroughly entertaining and memorable night for fans of edgy comedy. If you enjoy sharp, unapologetic humor, this roast is well worth the watch.
