Mr. Drysdale buys a movie studio, called Mammoth Pictures, as an investment for the Clampetts and everything goes haywire. The story has the feel of the THREE STOOGES film, "Movie Maniacs," where the guys take over a movie studio. Sound familiar?
Best of the Best is a goofy takeoff on DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, the homicidal Mr. Hyde played by John Abbott. His character is called Sir Trevor Gielgud-Burton-Guiness? Elly is cast as one of Hyde's pretty victims. Really? She throws Sir Trevor right out a window! Watching the cardboard sets fall apart is fun.
Look for Alvy Moore ( GREEN ACRES) as Alvin, also Milton Frome (from SUPERMAN) as the frustrated studio exec, Mr. Chapman.
Interestingly, there's a "black and white" promo for the famous Rock Hudson/Doris Day comedy, SEND ME NO FLOWERS. Since the series was a mega hit, it made good sense, and may have inspired the producers to start thinking about COLOR episodes. You could bet on that.
Some nice shots of the Clampett's old buggy racing around Hollywood. The historic roadster was later put on display (after the series ended) at the Ralph Foster Museum in Missouri.
SEASON 3 EPISODE 1 remastered CBS dvd box set. 5 dvds. Released 2009. Seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released on blu ray by 2027. Thanks METV for running them all.
