When I stumbled upon this 2021 Mexican horror movie titled "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías" (aka "The Exorcism of Carmen Farias") here in 2023, of course I opted to watch it, since it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, much less even heard about.
However, with "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías" being an exorcism movie, I have to admit that I didn't really harbor much of any high hopes for the movie, since the vast majority of movies in this subgenre of the horror genre tends to be rather dubious movies. But I figured that I would give the movie the benefit of the doubt.
Writer Molo Alcocer Délano delivered an insanely slow paced and uneventful script for the movie. Nothing happened throughout the 80 minutes of the 93 minutes that the movie ran for. It was the last 13 minutes where things started to happen. But truth be told, by then it was just too little, too late. And it didn't really help much that what did happen in those 13 minutes felt very rushed and anti-climatic.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías", but I will say that the actors and actresses in the movie put on good performances, despite the fact of having a horribly weak and thin script to work with.
Visually then "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías" wasn't particularly memorable. It was mostly low-key and practical effects, such as slamming doors, pictures falling from the wall, and such effects. So you're not even in for a visual treat, should you opt to sit down and watch director Rodrigo Fiallega's "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías". Well, it should be noted that the house, in which the movie takes place, is actually the best thing about the entire movie, given the atmosphere of the run-down and antiquated feel of the location.
While I managed to suffer through all 93 minutes of "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías", I have to admit that I was anything but entertained. The narrative is so insanely slow paced and devoid of anything thrilling, exciting or interesting, that it is virtually quite the ordeal to sit through. I wish I could be exorcised of the immense boredom that the movie instilled in me.
Don't waste your time, money or effort on "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías". Some of us suffered through this ordeal so you don't have to. And while the movie does hint of an exorcism in the title, don't get your hopes up for such a thing to be the main focal point of the movie.
My rating of "El Exorcismo de Carmen Farías" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars.

The movie has a cool atmosphere with a familiar premise. A girl Inherits her grandmother's home and when staying in it for a romantic getaway she discovers some Exorcism's tapes that involve her grandma. Then she starts hearing bumps in the night, while trying to unravel the mystery.... The problem? Nothing is really explained (which in some movies is fine but there's 0 context for this "story"), the pacing is very slow an it ends with an anticlimactic and rushed climax.
Also it doesn't help that Camila Sodi is not a good actress. You guys can avoid this one.

Film Review: The exorcism of Carmen Farias.
Hello my dear readers. Today I bring you a pleasant surprise that I had.
Carmen Farias' exorcism is apparently a Mexican production. I don't know how much money was involved in the production, but it seems to me that they made a lot, with little. The impression it gives is that there was a lot of care on the part of the production in all aspects of this film.
Very well balanced, it gives the impression that maybe the director doesn't have the opportunity to make another movie like this again, or maybe he's just capricious.
There's nothing pasty here. He is serious and dramatic. Don't expect a "blockbuster" full of "jumpscares"... that's not his proposal. I'd say it's an "immersive horror" where the film's atmosphere holds, not its special features.
It is a film where a lot of affection on the part of the production is perceptible. There is a beautiful photograph allied to an excellent set of cameras.
Its plot is classic and innovative at the same time, which is the envy of any Hollywood production. The film brings a relatively simple concept, with many references to other films, but worked in a harmonious way. The same goes for the special effects and makeup, which are few and well placed.
But not everything is perfect. Its slow but engaging start, despite being part of this immersion work, can make the viewer feel discouraged. And also its ending, the high point of the film, makes everything unfold very quickly, a situation that could have lasted a little longer. But despite being fast, it's satisfying.
In short, it is a very affectionate production with his work.
Watch when you want to be surprised. It's so worth it.
Rating: 4/5 - Very good movie.

This movie has nothing to do with horror.
There are no horror scenes in the movie, the script is bad, the movie is boring, there are various inconsistencies, and the performances are unconvincing. The only thing that stands out is the wonderful camera work, making interesting shots.
Just another bad movie that has nothing to do with horror.

La parte interesante del climax dura muy poco y no da suficiente miedo para mantenerte interesado, lo demás es solo como una introducción a mi parecer, una introducción de poco mas de una hora. No la recomiendo.
The interesting part of the climax lasts to little and isn't scary enough to keep you interested, the rest is just like an introduction for me, an introduction which is over an hour long. I wouldn't recommend it.
