Being a middle aged white male from outside the United States I'm probably not the target demographic but I find this show charming. Some of its themes are universal: family, community, cultural clashes, economic pressures, trying to live your values under challenging circumstances. These are things a lot of us can relate to in our own context.
The backdrop of the show is about creeping gentrification into a Latino community in L. A. centered around a cast of characters tied together by family and their local taco shop. There are a lot of political themes around class and culture that come up that may turn off some people but I never found any of it heavy handed even in instances where I didn't agree with the messaging.
The cast is solid and the characters are well developed. I particularly enjoyed watching Karrie Martin as Ana, she lights up the screen in every scene she's in. I hope to see more of her. Glad to see its getting a second season.

I seriously love this more and more. Casimoro is one of the best most loveable characters, honestly, love them all. Cant wait for more
Great show, honestly the first two episodes are the weakest and yet they're really good. After episode 3 the show really takes form, FANTASTIC storytelling, the subject matters are important and relevant; very well told and acted. It has so much spirit and I can't stop talking about it to everyone i know. You'll notice some people are giving bad reviews (not surprised at all) because the shows way of telling this stories while also making several points; many people are going through that and much worse and just because those scenarios don't paint SOME well "it's biased", these are the same people that love to remind you everyday 'not everyone of us' but when some else does anything 'it's all of them'.
Watch it, love it y gózalo!
About time someone created a TV show like this, funny, humor, family with Hispanic culture, old school with New school. I Loved this TV show and kept me Laughing😂
First of all, I'm 100% for ANY positive Latin representation in the media. For some reason, Latin comedies and sit-coms just don't tend to do well on TV...and Gentefied underscores why. I think most families can sympathize with a flawed but lovable patriarch, a family business, younger generation that can't seem to find their place, etc. But the fact that this is set in Boyle Heights/East LA doesn't mean it needs to be militant and say "viva la raza!!!" in every other sentence. The sad reality is, like "East Los High", the only way such Latin-themed shows get put on the air is if they pander to the ultra-leftist Hollywood narrative (i.e. lesbian relationships, women talking about "gender is a social construct", frequent references to "toxic masculinity" etc) which means even though this is a series by Latinos, with Latino actors...it isn't at all what real life is for most Latin people in the US (or East LA). Like I said, I enjoyed some of the themes, and I'm hoping more people do as well...I just think they need to tone down the propaganda (FYI, it's Latino, Latina or just Latin if you're speaking English...LatinX is a made up term to colonize Romance languages with a political agenda) if they really want to make this a hit as opposed to a radical sounding-board. There really are some good performances here, so I'd say with all the caveats in mind, give this show a watch.
